Can someone take my domain if I trademarked it?

I have a domain that is a name of a city, but the city is not located in the US. I have the name trademarked under my name in the US. Can the city of that other country take it?

 

Generally a city name would be too descriptive to be trademarked, however, it would depend on the actual name and what you are doing with it. Trademarks do not need to be registered in the US and other parts of the world, and there is certainly International trademark protection. The fact that you have a trademark does not mean the domain cannot be taken or the mark canceled. It is something that should be discussed with an attorney that specializes in IP law.

 

By the way the city's name isn't the full name... Its like this... The cities full name *XXXX XXXX XXXX* The one I have is *XXXX XXXX* (The name isn't even trademarked in there country)

 

Again, it depends on the name and what you are doing with it. Trademark infringement does not have to be exact. A trademark does not need to be registered.

 

IT has nothing to do with there country or city. Its total based in the US.

You trademarked a two word combination, that also happens to be two thirds of the name of some city, in some random country. You have also trademarked this name for some classification, and you tell us it has nothing to do with the city.

I am not even sure what you are worried about, but it sounds like you have some words that you have trademarked and I see no reason why a random city that uses those words as part of its name is going to come after you when the name has nothing to do with the city and has other meanings as well.

Sounds to me like you are worrying about a problem that does not exist.

 

I mean the site I created has nothing to do with the city. BTW they call there city the 2 words a lot. But there actually name is the 3 words.

 

Yeah, I get that, so why are you concerned?

Plus you say the name has a dictionary meaning and you already have a trademark. It seems extremely unlikely the city would want, let alone try to take your domain, based on the information you have shared.
