Not sure where to get Images for my Blog??? Where does mashable, huffington post, associated content and others get there stock photos? It seems like it can get pretty damn expensive buying stock photos! -C
Yes, this is a good source and also flickr as well. Its strongly suggested not to use images directly from google as they might be protected by copyrights. Also if you are familiar with photoshop, creating and designing images and icons yourself is the best. warm regards Josh
They don't use stock photos. They are usually a part of other news outlets like AP or Rueters, pay a membership fee for access and rights to use images, or they are submitted to them. You will either have to: 1. Solicit people to submit images with their information. 2. Create your own. 3. Subscribe to a news or photo agency or service. 4. Get permission to use images. 5. Use images that are offered under Creative Commons. 6. Buy them. 7. Use images from press packs. That's pretty much it. That's what we all have to do.
Check the license agreements at Flickr and SXC.hu closely. There are some restrictions and terms. On Flickr, the Creative Commons allows you to use the images for free but have strings. Those strings often require that you provide attribution (a link to the provider's profile on Flikr) in order to use them. Some images, the provider may not have any terms and you can use as you want. Some cannot be used commercially. SXU.hu was just acquired by Getty Images not too long ago. The images on this site are available for commercial and personal use with some minor restrictions which you can look up yourself. You cannot sell the images. And images with people in them, while there is no modeling contract, may come back to bite you if the person does not like you and wants you to remove them. Model terms are kind of a gray area here. SCU.hu has a growing number of textures, abtract images, etc. which can enhance your themes. Another good place for this type of graphics can be found on DeviantArt (again, check their licensing which varies from provider to provider)
Good to know.... Flickr terms aren't too bad...i don't mind citing the images to the providers profiles. As for Getty images aquiring SXC.hu - That sucks....i hate Getty Images....they charge too much money! -C
They are still free and will remain that way. There is also a large membership base uploading stuff there, just like at DeviantArt. The only downside of Getty taking the site over is that they own iStock and you cannot navigate the pages there without smacking an iStock link.
Whats the differance between the images at Getty images and SXC.hu ? I know at Getty you have to pay Big Bucks...hows the quality of SXC.hi compared to Getty? -C
SXC.hu may be owned by Getty, but it is still a user community that uploads free images. As far as quality, check it out for yourself. It is very decent in my opinion, but don't take my word for anything. My word ain't worth spit. ;o)
