Not trying to take over this thread but.....

One pet peeve I have about white American liberals is they have these sacred cows such as race and abortion among others.

I can't count the number of times this happened. Ever been in a room with a white liberal and a minority walk in? particularly a black person? And the white liberal will literally steer the conversation around and say something stupid like "well I'm white what you do you expect, were all stupid?" "Yea those stupid white people?" or something absolutely off the wall. They could turn on you in a second to protect themselves from a falsely percieved threat and befriend the stranger at your expense. Very fake, and actually prejudiced towards both parties.

It's almost like: I'm scared of this minority person so I'm gonna take his side right away and cut my friends throat here so in case he is dangerous he'll go after my freind instead of me.

I know thats a bit analytical but basically it's true and I've seen it over and over again. It seems to be peculiar to white American libs. They seem scared to death and lacking a solid sense of personal identity.

I think that stems from a deep fear or misplaced guilt or some odd psychological character flaw they havn't dealt with.

My minority friends, mainly hispanics, see it too and they don't get it.

I am a big believer in the individual regardless of race, ethnicity, religion etc. In fact I live by that creed.

Libs seem to see people in groups and enjoy pitting one against another depending on who they think deserves punishment, reward etc.

It would be very difficult to get close to one because they turn on you in a second if they FEEL you might threaten one of these sacred cows. Plus I just couldn't live with all that fear.

I guess the combination of lib+American+white quashes individuality.

Is this a common fear these days? I have friends on both sides and it never impacts their friendship or trust.

Are black American liberals safe to befriend?

I think the behaviior that you are seeing is related to the fact that your average liberal is significantly less experienced than your average conservative.

    Other patterns I have noticed:

Liberals tend to be very theoretical, conservatives tend to be more practical.

Liberals tend to focus on black and white arguments, conservatives tend to see more shades of gray.

Liberals tend to focus on how something looks, conservatives tend to focus on how something works.

Liberals tend to work in the arts, education, journalism, civil service, and large companies. They are often unionized. Conservatives tend to work for small companies, often their own small companies. Conservatives tend to work in jobs and for companies where they can build things or help people in a very concrete and visible way.

It's a big world; lots of room for everyone.

If you need your hair done, go to a liberal.
If you need a snazzy new dress, go to a liberal.
If you want a fantastic looking dinner, go to a liberal.

If you want a huge hunk of steak, go to a conservative.
If you want your truck fixed, go to a conservative.
If you want your nation saved from a barbarian horde, go to a conservative.

Isn't that the other way around? Liberals see shades of gray (moral relativism everywhere? he's a killer, but he's a good dad), while conservatives see things more as good and evil (good things don't mitigate the bad things?)

That's the pattern I've seen most.

For example, "Saddam was a cruel leader, but [insert some moral relativism here for justification]"

Practical like "stay the course" and "they hate our freedoms"? That kind of practical :D

Like the current administration. They're perfect models of this :D

If you want your nation to become a barbarian horde, go to a conservative ;)

    Yup. :D

The "stay the course" option is turning into even more of a farce than originally thought.
All the BS "mission accomplished" / "We'll be handing it over to Iraq" etc. etc. etc. etc.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061011/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_iraq

Pretty soon there will be more troops in Iraq than there are on home soil in the U.S.A
Most of them will not have a clue what they are actually there for. Just like Vietnam.

But I have a funny feeling that they will be there because of Iraqs strategic location in the world.

Oh, and the oil of course. :D

Will, you might be overdrawing a bit. I mean, among others,

Well, damn! That explains it all - no wonder I'm just not neatly in either camp - top seller from my kitchen: 32 ounce, hand cut, bone in ribeye; fondue of cippolines, roasted chanterelles; Iowa-Amish Blue Cheese-glazed potato puree; sauce bordelaise.

In theory, it very practically provides the yabba-dabba-do experience.

    OK, back to frivolous banter.

I think the Republican leaders like to adopt words and make the meaning more political than anything.

I believe Republican generally speak of praticalities, but often do something that's not as practical. Democrats speak of theory, and when in power they seek whatever will grow their base...many of their ideas don't work long-term.

The moment Republican uniformly do what they say, the more likely they'll keep office. In some cases that means setting a implicit agenda among the party,...that's do-able,... and in some cases that means let other go.

Dems need platform changes. They need to hack away their leadership (which would probably be beneficial to both parties). Go back to Kennedy-like views, and they'll win super majorities.

The Democrats need a platform, period.

On foreign policy, their platform is "it's all Americas fault."

On domestic policy, their platform is "the government isn't doing enough."

Their foreign policy platform leads to paralysis and defeat in our international relations.

Their domestic policy platform leads to crippling our economy and destroying our freedoms.

The Democratic Party, quite simply, is not prepared to take the reins of government.

ahhh..so your one of those spineless dorks who starts bashing your whitey friend when "your minority friend" walks in.

It never impacts your friendship cause you all have the same opinion.

Now try this one: when your in the room with a black/hispanic/gay/Jewish person and someone else not in one of those groups walks, start talking about how stupid/lazy/disgusting/greedy, blacks/hispanics/gays/Jews are.

    :D :D :D

Nevermind... I've found libs know what they do is wrong....they simply justify it based on irrational feelings.

As a opposed to what, sometimes our problems are partial caused by ourselves, not all the time but sometimes, if you can't recognize that when its true, then you are deluded

What is alternative, invade countries, with bad intelligence, then stay there forever spending 5-10 billion a month, invade a country that actually needs invading but do it with so few troops that main objective gets away?

    please list examples?

like what?, and our present foreign policy has lead up to winning in our international relations?

    like what?
