I have an anger management website that provides some excellent advice, with over 150 posts. I am not a junk site, but am trying to create a large resource to help people who suffer from chronic anger problems. Soon the site will have discussion forums. I have been working on my backlinking, but it has been going very slow. I am running out of ideas for how to get backlinks. I have submitted to many link directories and article directories, and for now google seems think I need a new strategy because my improvements have leveled off with those. The problem, at least in my mind, is that my niche is not sexy. People don't want to talk about anger, so I try looking for other blogs to post to, but not many sites are out there discussing painful things like anger, understandably. I refuse to post junk comments or forum posts. Unless I can find something real to contribute then for me it's a futile effort. But I'm spending hours just looking for blogs with a decent page rank I can post to but am coming up empty handed. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
First of all, you should change your mindset about sexy niche, all niches are promoted according to demand in society. As you are running anger management related websites then there would also be people or business man in this but I would say that today most of the people are looking for solution for getting their anger down, it is becoming big mental disease today, believe me. What you need to do is to find related blogs and forums, you must be aware of finding these websites by using Google, just put the main keywords + "powered by Wordpress" + "leave a comment" this way you would find those websites which are dealing in the keywords you have mentioned. You can also find forums, there are two popular forum scripts, vBulletin and PHPBB, you can use these two script name associated with your keywords as well. But try to build link naturally also, including some nofollow links would also make your link building campaign natural, do directory submission, article submission, guest blogging all are good way of getting back links but don't take too many back links in one day, do it slowly and regularly for good result.
Thanks very much for responding to my post. This is helpful. I do realize anger is a topic many people are looking for help with, it's just that it's a hard topic to spread via social means, because people are not so likely to tell their friend, "Hey, check out this great anger management website, it's really cool!" Having said that, I know that I just need to continue my efforts and find places to get exposure, and gradually build up my basis. I've been doing everything you mentioned in your comprehensive list of suggestions, so I shall continue forward!
I applaud your efforts and subject matter, a well deserving and needy topic for which many need help! With regard to your dilema, you might try this: A blogroll is a list of links to blogs that the blogger likes. A blogroll is usually included in the blog's sidebar. Some bloggers divide their blogrolls into categories. For example, a blogger who writes about cars could divide his blogroll up into categories for links to other blogs he writes, other blogs about cars and other blogs he likes about unrelated topics. The blogroll can be set up based on each blogger's personal preferences, and it can be updated at any time. It's an unwritten rule in the blogosphere that if a blogger puts a link to your blog in his or her blogroll, you should reciprocate and add that blog's link in your own blogroll. Of course, each blogger approaches this with their own blogging goals in mind. Sometimes you may not like a blog that links to you through its blogroll. There are many reasons why you may decide not to reciprocate a blogroll link, but it's good blogging etiquette to at least review each blog that links to you through its blogroll to determine if you'd like to add that blog to your own blogroll or not. Blogrolls are great traffic driving tools. With each blogroll that your blog is listed on comes the possibility that readers of that blog will click on your link and visit your blog. Blogrolls equate to publicity and exposure across the blogosphere. Additionally, blogs with many incoming links (particularly those from high quality blogs as rated by Google page rank or Technorati authority), are usually ranked higher by search engines, which can bring additional traffic to your blog.
