What is the average time on a free directory submission to a directory that it takes for it to be in there directory if they approve it? I also want to know once my submission has been approved and is in a directory, how long is the average life time of my listing and backlink

Editorial review processes vary dramatically from one directory to another. Newer directories generally have smaller review queues and process submissions faster than more established directories. Processing can take anywhere from a few minutes to several months.

Once a site has been accepted, they generally stay permanently, but it is not a guarantee. Sometimes editors decide to overhaul a category and weed out sites of lesser quality.

Is turnabout fair play? 100% of free submission directories get 80% submissions from people who never review the submission guidelines and qualifications... Hehe...

Seriously though, ignoring the submission guidelines and qualifications (you know, the things that make one directory different from all the others) is a good way to get your submission binned (and possibly without an email notification if the dir editor doesn't want to alert possible submission spammers).

Then there are directories that offer free submission options as a red herring to attract free links and listings on "free directory" lists. That's where the value of a free directory list that is actively being updated proves it's value (as the bad apples are weeded out over time).

Hours to days to weeks in most cases... The amount of time I take to approve a listing though is dependent on how well the submitter phrases their submission and secondly how much effort they have put into their site. Good sites which the owner has spent some time working on are always easy to spot. Knock-off or poorly built sites are also easy to spot.

I receive around a hundred submissions a day so my first cut when reviewing a site is always those long titles which are the same as the description.. FLUSH! Things just go quite rapidly from there. Bottom line, The good well written submissions get the grease and they slip in with little trouble.

Once they are in, they are in and I only cull out those free listings which have dropped off the face of the net once a month.

i generally turn off the submission option on my site, when the number of sites needing review goes above 1000.

Are these free directories not providing a 'timeline' for their reviewing process in their guidelines?

Always keep in mind that it's on a 'per directory' deal. some say a week, some say two, some say ...
