I have a HP Pavillion DV6 system with 32 bit operating system. Is is possible to make it to 64 bit Operating system? And actually, please tell me what is the main difference b/w these. One of my game is asking to me to increase it to 64 bit. can i do this?
You can always run a 64bit OS but if you don't have the processor that will do 64bit it will just run 32bit. If you have a duel core or higher more than likely it will be 64bit. You could always check on hp and look up the computer specs and check, when i wanted a 64bit OS I had to buy the most expensive version of vista and it came on DVD so just make sure you have a DVD drive but now a days almost every computer has a DVD drive except for net-books.
I believe that all modern computers (except some netbooks) are capable of running 64-bit OS. In most cases it only makes sense to run it if you have more than 4GB of RAM. 64-bit OS will actually run a bit slower than 32-bit all other things being equal. However being able to use RAM above 4GB offsets this greatly. There are also some very specialized pieces of software that will only run on 64-bit OS, but I doubt that you need those.
Use a 64 bits one when you have more than 4gb of ram in your pc/laptop, if not, it isnt needed, also, not all programs work on 64bits.
Another problem you will face, is that you can't upgrade Windows directly from 32-bit to 64-bit. You basically have to do a reinstall, which means reinstalling programs, and backing up your data etc. It's usually better to start with a 64-bit OS on a new PC than to upgrade.
The 64-bit versions of Windows can utilize more memory than 32-bit versions of Windows. The main difference between a 32 bit and 64 is that 32 bit system has 4gb(gigabytes) of space for addressing means that the 32 bit system has a limit of 4GB RAM to process data where as the 64 bit operating system has 2^64 bits of space to address and supports 16 hexabytes of RAM to process data.
That was a good explanation. Thanks for that. If your CPU supports it, you can do it. Check out your CPU specifications from your product's web site.
Since the 64-bit operating systems and software, many of whom have works, but none of the final version. Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows XP, which uses 64-bit, but there are still problems. The problem is when you run a software environment and a 32-bit OS to 64-bit system.
