I lived in the South for a few years and the Klu Klux Klan(KKK) was very active and was very proud to profess in the papers that the modern day Democratic Party rose from their ranks. Maybe all of their bitterness today comes from losing the Civil War and knowing that the Republicans freed the slaves. Could this be? Someone in this thread asked if the Dems were abused as children, maybe there is something to that in a broader sense!

KKK very active I was raised in the deep South and live in the Southwest (New Mexico) now and the KKK has never been "very active" at any point in my lifetime except on Jerry Springer. The KKK is a boogeyman hollywood and liberals use to scare blacks and minorities into voting for them. I always wished I could meet just one KKK member just so I could say I had. Never met one in 40 years or at least that I know of. Minority gangs however are very active. I once wrote a paper about interracial crime and it turns out blacks all by themselves murder more whites each and every month than the KKK murdered blacks in its entire history. Whites rarely murder blacks except on Hollywood movie sets over and over and over again. There are no Hollyweird movies depicting that. I'm around quite a few minorites on a daily basis and "The KKK" is a big part of their lives for some reason. I never understood it until I realized that is what the media feeds us and we assume "they are out there somewhere" even though we never see them. And it can justify all sorts of fears and hatreds to manipulate minorities. Hollywood liberals love the KKK like a fat boy love cake!

Arkansas is part of the religious "bible belt" and overwhelmingly protestant (86% are christians / 78% protestant) and there's also a joke about arkansas and backwoods inbreeding Utah is well-known for being a heavily Mormon state also with jokes about polygamy and inbreeding.
