Other than traffic, how much does competition matter?

Hello, just trying to figure out something here but does competition mean a damn thing if I can get traffic to my landing page anyways? My thinking is that I don't care if a million other affiliates sell a product if I can just get a small percentage of those potential buyers to my landing page so I can make sales.

Other than for the difficulty in ranking on google, the cost in PPC, or the sheer number of people writing articles and promoting a product, DOES competition make a difference? And if so, why?

Perhaps if a product like Fat Burning Furnace has a higher competition and is more well known more people will google search before making the final purchase and find too many other competitors.

How is competition a big deal other than getting traffic if at all?

    Thanks.

Well, the above reasons are why competition is so important. The difference between a $1.00 bid for a competitive keyword vs. a $0.20 bid for a non-competitive keyword is the difference between making lots of money and losing lots of money. The difference when publishing articles is being on the 6th page of Google results for a competitive keyword and the 1st page for a non-competitive keyword.

I already told you via PM, when you are new to the game, focus on non-competitive keywords. If you try to promote weight loss products via Adwords you will get killed by people with far more experience investing far more money. Same thing with articles - it takes months of work to rank well for weight loss keywords unless you own an authority website.

Good SEO work can make high PR, bring more traffic, more visitors. So it's no doubt that we should do more work on SEO.

If you are getting more traffic than your competitor it really does not matter with the competition.

Competition is so important - it was the only reason I decided to go for paid methods instead of invetsing months in SEO because my niche was pretty competetive (not too muc but enought to get me bussie for the next 6 months). My advice to you - in competetive markets go for the paid traffic as fast as it's posssible. After seeing few conversions with articles start paying - much faster results!

If you can get high-quality traffic even with a bunch of competition, kudos to you - the competition doesn't mean much anymore.

But that is the hard part - getting traffic. PPC costs and search engine rankings will bog you down in markets with high competition.
