My website and compatibility mode in IE8

    Hello,

I am having an issue with my website in which when using IE8, you have to have it in compatibility mode of everything is squished to the middle of the page (I.E. it's centered and borders are really tight).

I have told my web deisgner, but nothing has changed. It appears as though this is something that has recenlty happened, as my wife visited our site and mentioned it, then the next day an employee mentioned the same thing. When I press the compatibility icon to the right of the address bar, it looks fine.

Is it possible that they (the web designers) did not actually do something to the website, but changed a setting on the server itself that messed things up?

Thanks for the help and input!

i think its just bad coding, thats all.
when coding the html developer supposed to test it on all major browsers, obviously that wasnt done properly.

you probably have to have somebody check and fix the code for you.

    Thanks for the direction......

I would have thought it would have come up earlier as my wife and employee have visited the site before.....

As always, any other input is appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Dave

Yes you can skip IE8 and wait for IE 9 atleast then they improve their browsers. Many people ignoring IE because of its non-compatibility.

Your designer probably did not test the site on IE8. IE<8 are usually tricky to design for. Just tell your coder to test it out in IE8 and fix it. As a web designer I can tell you that getting a complex site to look 100% across all browsers is impossible without conditional css includes(and many hacks). Different (especially IE) look at the code differently.

    Hello,

I beg to differ. Google Analytics will show different....at least on my site. I agree that Firefox is good, but your statement is not 100% accurate.

    Thanks for hte input!

    Cheers,

    Dave
