I have installed a gaming worpress theme to my blog, but I want to remove the owner links in footer, or make it nofollow, but once I remove the link, the theme is broken. Anyone knows about this..?
i already seen many theme and same issue and when i remove link, theme is broken. The best way, you change theme.
I guess, in Wordpress you don't have option to change the page elements. Better you go for Blogger OR change the theme.
Actually footer.php is encrypted in few wp blogs just to protect sponsors links from removal else you can alter other files if you want. DON.
Its not easy. When you decrypt link, site go down. I saw theme function.php file and i think some files are connected with owners blog. i think....
Why not contact the theme owner and see if he would remove the link with some payment or tell him you would have a back-link to his website in someother way. Else, find those free themes which allows you to remove footer link.
It has nothing to do with Wordpress. It's the difference in using free themes or premium ones. If you don't want a theme with sponsored links, then don't use them. Removing them is not an ethical solution and is probably against the T.O.S. for using the theme in the first place. If you are using Wordpress.com, then you are stuck with what they give you.
Don't use free wordpress themes if your going to remove the footler links. You rather buy a premium theme if you really want to remove them so much.
usually the footer link is in footer.php. By replacing the text with your own decision it will disappear. It is not recommended to do, because it is in violation of wordpress and free themes TOS.
It has nothing to do with Wordpress' TOS. It's also not as easy as that with themes that have coded or encrypted footers. That's why they are encrypted, so that you can't change them.
All i can say is use free themes only if you can keep sponsors links intact else go for paid themes (pay for links free theme). DON.

Yeah, sometimes the links are not even inserted by the creator themselves. Some of these free wp theme sites been know to stole themes, put their own backlinks (like 5 wth?) and god knows what, encrypt it and put it on their site for you to download.
yes very few themes allow you to change the entire contents according to your requirement . you can try it downloading and updating it
