i have a few affiliate sites, but was wondering if link redirection using a php script is bad practise? do search engines penalise for this?
The way I do it is just link to a subdomain and then redirect the subdomain. You don;t get penalized for this.
you cannot get penalized for link redirection. redirection is a common practice and lot of major sites redirect links to avoid pr leak as well as to prevent spam. i myself redirect my affiliate links as well but through an inner page. when someone clicks on my affiliate links, they go to an inner page which then redirects to the affiliate site. this way i can hide the affiliate links form google as well as i can track exactly how many clicks i'm sending to my merchant.
Hey mate, have you tried using a redirect in articles submitted to ezine articles for example? Or how do you set it up? Do you just write an article about whatever product you are promoting and then set up a redirect to go to the hoplink? Sorry to hijack a little but ive been looking for a good answer on this for quite a while
