ISPs do not allow you to host a server so they could charge a ridiculous price for their hosting service (ofter 400% more than 3rd party hosting companies)

Don't worry...this is common issues from the cable company .Just run your server in your home without being informing to them.& in term of legal, its 100% legal,if you pay bills.

the only block my port 80 that I share with the internet. Not when I visit a site. Also what do you mean by call them? What I truley want is to have my own linux servers at home but I think i found a way with a vpn... Im not sure exactly how to do it yet.. I haven't got that far... The cable company has a monopoly around here.. and they want you to buy 100 mb of space for $49.95 a month and 1 gig of bandwidth.. its a complete joke...

I have a idea but I am not sure if it will work or not.. I did find one company but I am having problems with there payment system. I think I will wait another 24 hours and if I do not hear from them then I have another company in mind.

If I run my server on a different port I get two problems.. one... I will have something like mysite.com:8080 and then my isp ends up blocking it not unless there is another way around this some how.. thats why I came to the conclusion of a vpn... The one vpn company I have not heard anything from but I think I found a different company that I may sign up with in the next few days...

Well you could pay your ISP for a dedicated connection or business account that allows you to legally run a web server instead of cheating them. ;)

most of the time they will not allow a home server do to the bandwidth requirements. its generally a safer bet to get a professional host

yea thats true.. I need something that can handle about 100 people at once.. The vpn works.. I wish I had that option to get a cable company to resell with me.. but for the mean time with the size I am and everything the vpn works the best..

well finally after long long search i have found a company!!! Ok.. everyone has been telling me it has been cheaper to find a webhost.. For some reason I just don't surely get this.. but maybe I am missing something... So heres a idea of my break down.. For example... Now I want a good good good good hosting provider.. Not junk.. I need at least one dedicated server to start with.. A good web hosting company I will say for example would be softlayer.. I bought a server for $782, I have to build it myself, and with some parts I have been creative.. used.. or from other places.... so there are a few hours..

If I rent the same server with a 100 Mbps card with ... then it will be around $359 a month..

If I build my own.. and run my own.. -

Phone with internet service - $37. - used for a uptime system to notify me in case any problems..
    Cable company - $63.
    electric - $20.

    monthly out come - $120.00

One time charge of - $782 - server parts
One time charge of - $369 - battery back up / surge

one time charge of - $1151
    or...

    calulated into months - $191. - 12 months

For the first year it would be $311. If you want to look at it that way.. I do not have any generators added in.. because I highly doubt the electric will go out.. Or if it does go out the cable will go out too..

The only cost that may really change.. is my labor.. I would have to watch it 24 hours a day...

But even if you have the top package from the cable company you only are serving up at an absolute maximum of 1.5 Mbps and realistically you will be below their top speed. If your wanting to cope with 100 concurrent users then they will be getting 15Kbps or in other words 1.9 KBps to each of them.

At that rate, with the average website page now being around 300KB it is going to take over 2.5 minutes for a page to render!

What you pay for with professional hosting is their network connections not the kit or software.

    7 Abuse of Services
7.1 Usage of Super-Net resources that disrupts the normal use of Super-Net servers, other Internet hosts and/or other Super-Net customers is considered to be abuse of resources and is grounds for account cancellation. Some examples of system abuse include consuming excessive amounts of memory, circuit bandwidth or CPU time.
7.2 Depending on the nature and the severity of the abuse, the user may have their account suspended by Super-Net. Occasionally, unintentional misuse is misinterpreted as intentional misuse. Customers who believe their activity has been misinterpreted may appeal to Super-Net.
7.3 Super-Net does not allow the unprotected distribution or storage of any pornographic or like material in any Internet User's account. Posting such material for public access is grounds for immediate account cancellation.
7.4 Harassment of others via the use of Super-Net access is grounds for account cancellation.
7.5 Operating a web or other publicly accessible server via a Super-Net cable modem is prohibited. (This includes Napster, Songspy, etc.)

Once again, what cable company is going to let you operate a web server for $63/mo.?

    Not yours..
