My very first header in Photoshop

I am a newbie in the world of Graphics Designing. I created a header for a local newspaper, for which i like to hear your comments. I've attached my work, Please give your comments.

A little blurry @ the papers but overall not a bad job for your 1st thing . Congratz .

It's great to see people teach themselves new things! Your banner looks great for your first project and I'd just like to say, keep going! If you would like to learn new things about the tools of Photoshop then I believe the best thing to use is Youtube.
Hey, maybe when you become more confident, you'll be making videos to teach us of how to use the program!

Change the font, the rest is O.K.

 

Very good for the first time, try making a few more psd's with different fonts like Birokrat suggested.

For your first, it is awesome
Next time joust watch out on the typography, on the font. If you look letter S , it give us impression of something strong, strict, massive. 'election news.com' font is funky,non defined, relaxed.
Im not saying that contrasting is wrong, but in this case, imo i really dont like it. (the typography).
But overall for your first ime designin something,it is really really good

 

Not bad for your first design but it can look a lot more professional.

Like the keyboard display at the right and the font you have selected, if its for a physical newspaper then you can convert it to something that looks somewhat similar to whats normally used for the newspaper in your region because thats what the peoples will be used to there and that'll look professional to them.

Not terrible for your first piece of work but I definitely wouldn't put that on my website

Very bad choice of fonts in my opinion. You would be better going with a helvetica sans font and there is too much emphasis on the background with the over done lighting effects ect.
Also when your using a a lot of text you should save the image as a png so the text doesn't get so blurry

If you want to improve it I would suggest

1. Use a different font and dont mix your fonts
2. Use a fading dark blue gradient square as the base of your text on the left side of the image
3. The news return key isn't bad but if you are going to use it, it should be more pronounced with the burn/multiply
4. Follow the rule of three points, each part of the image should draw your attention to three parts of it and blend seamlessly
