Hi guys... I have a domain with IYD.com and I thought it was on auto renew... but I guess it wasn't... now the domain has expired and they want to charge me $100 to renew it. Any ideas and what can be done?

How important is it? Shell out the money and then move it to namesecure.com or some other provider.

If its expired and you want it then you don't have much choice but to pay the fee. If not then its unlikely they will release it for general registration.

    Then switch registrars.:)

    it's not a LLL.com domain the registrar's site is IYD.com

You guys don't think they will release it? So they will just hold it for ever?

It's a standard now to charge during redemption period. $100 is actually cheaper than what most companies charge. Unfortunately, you're stuck unless you want to take the chance and backorder it.

So it's your mistake yet you want the registrar to pay for it? Have you considered it costs them time and money? I don't know this....Just makes sense.

if the domain matters to you, pay it. 100$ is not much in the long term if the site is worth anything to you.

if it's not, you can either gamble and hope you can pick it back up at the regular price before someone else snags it (... good luck) or ditch it and get a new domain.

Disgust just gave you the best advice.

If the domain name really means something to you, then pay it, or take a chance and let it die and then try and take it again.

    Oh:eek:

Well if it makes any money or you put any effort into it, pay the $100. If not, forget about it. Many domains get picked up automatically these days, gambling on it isn't advisable.

Find out from IYD.com how long they will keep it in redemption so you will have some idea as to when it could be released. It cost around $18 - $20 to backorder it. Most places will let you change the domain name you are backordering if the one you originally order doesn't become available.

Backordering is risky. Pay the $100 if you need the name desperately.
