    Simply put...

    The disadvantages

    - It's been done many times before.
    - It'll be a lot of hard work to get your site recognized.
    - You may need staff to accept article's (The faster you can accept an article the more people will want to use your site)

    The advantages

    - People are looking to use these site's for their own SEO purposes
    - If your buying a directory then some of the hard work may be done for you.
    - DP members find such sites useful.

Like anything if the hard work is put into the site then anything is possible. If I was you i'd look into what you are actually buying (stats etc). If you don't know much about websites and marketing then you should learn as much as you can before taking the plunge and buying it.

    Hope i've helped

    disadvantages

you will be competing with 500,000 existing directories
and if you have any brains, you will know what is good for you.

    fastreplies is right.

I want to add that unless you offer something that the other 500,000 don't, you will end up in a long list of owner of "dead" directories (don't get me wrong - dead directories can have 100s of link submissions every day - but that's about it, really - income: zero, zip, zilch, nada.)

LOL, he can do something different...
he can start paying users for the privilege to get submission

I will bet my last dollar that in 1 year he will have the most popular directory

You're going to get one but you don't appear to know much about them? Not a good investment strategy, you've got the process backwards. Learn what they are and how they work and then decide if it's something you want to do. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and money.
