how do i know if my site is secure or not.

Discussion in 'Security' started by hansab, Jan 3, 2011.

Since i started using Wordpress and shifted to Linux (CPanel) hosting. I am just curious about the security. I have seen many wp sites being hacked. And some sites being defaced.

What measure should i take to make my site secure. Is linux/cpanel good or windows is more secure.

    Do let me know please.

    Thanks

Always update your software, never use unnecessary plugins, and don't be an idiot with passwords. Protect your wp-admin folder (cpanel lets you password protect directories) or even rename it. Security through obscurity isn't the best, but it's an added layer of defense which is always acceptable.

    Best options is:

    Linux + cPanel
    Wordpress + Good password
    Directory protection + SSL certificate

    Hope this helps

How will using an SSL certificate stop a site from getting hacked? If the administrator's traffic is being monitored then he has bigger problems than that to deal with.

Having a valid ssl certificate for your admin logging page will protect man-in-the-middle attacks

A remote attacker cannot perform a man-in-the-middle attack.

Most of the hacking attacks comes from the inside! Not protecting your inside is somehow leaving open security holes!

you can ask you hosting to secure your site. wordpress is secure itself but you gotta update it whenever updates are available

Attacks rarely come from the inside. No one is going to root your server just so they can get your wordpress password.

Granted, there's nothing really wrong with purchasing an SSL certificate anyway. (Aside from the price but that's another issue)

You are a script kiddie and rely only on your tools which are written by someone else. People like you shouldn't offer anyone help. Go help yourself first and actually learn something.

Obviously the Linux is more secure than window , SSL certificate is important to use with it to keep more secure. Avoid free software from unauthentic source, and plugins etc . you will be safe.

Most of the wordpress sites hack due to the plugins. Make sure you are using well known and secure plugins.
