Hi, I have to change my webhosting from Yahoo to another place because yahoo doesn't allow .htaccess So I'm thinking of Godaddy...but I was told I need 2 things: 1) It must be "apache" server 2) it must allow .htaccess I am a brand new rookie, so i don't even know what those 2 items fully mean, but does anyone know if Godaddy Web Hosting will do this?
Whatever you do, don't use GoDaddy. They are similar to Yahoo in what they don't allow and even if you get to do what you initially want to, you will definately run into problems down the road. GoDaddy is for people looking top upload a site and thats it. You are better off going with someone like ASmallOrange or similarly low priced full service hosting companies.
thats all i want to do, upload a site script and thats it...but i was told that it must be "apache" and it must allow .htaccess yahoo does not...but now your saying godaddy doesn't either?
godaddy does allow .htaccess and using apache, but godaddy is overselling hosting provider. Mostly overselling gives bad services. Do research first before you sign up.
http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=899&topic_id=&& Mod_rewrite is an Apache web server module installed on all of our Linux severs by default; it does not have to be installed or enabled. Our Linux hosting accounts support most mod_rewrite functionality. You will not need to enable mod_rewrite in your httpd.conf, as this is handled at a global level. All you will need to do is add the desired code to the body of your .htaccess file.
so for Godaddy...what is the cheapest hosting plan that will accomplish this? i notice they have all sorts of plans...any suggestions?
@yfs1 not yet @ts As people recommend don't go with godaddy....(research 1st!) & Cheap doesn't mean always good....
I will be interested if you actually get it to work...Way back when I emailed them about it and they said they don't support it...Im not surprised their site says they do as conflicting information is pretty common with them. I use them for my domains but personally I think it is a mistake to use their hosting for anyone
I don't think it is intentional...It is just that most of their support staff work off of scripts and you can only ask them a question that is in it, otherwise they seem to just make something up
how does that work when you use them just for domains and host someplace else? what do you do, just change the nameservers or something?
@Canadian1974 you may visit webhostingtalk.com as well, because there are lot of resources about hosting that might helpful for you good luck!
