I think two years from now people will have changed the way they search, and that could lead to a shift from Google to Facebook.
Facebook has become very popular world wide and I have heard that Facebook is going to launch its own search engine. So I want to say that anything can happen in future.
I would be really curious to see how many people are looking at Facebook before checking their email. For the longest time, Yahoo was the most popular site on the web because people were going their to check their email. There was a great article on Fast Company yesterday about the number of people migrating to Facebook because everyone else is already there. There's really no "Swiss-Army knife" type of sites out there. Google does search, Facebook does social, YouTube does video, Twitter does microblogging. People will go to the site that best suits their need. They really already do that. I do think Google is extremely concerned with Facebook, and see it as a major threat for capturing traffic. But Facebook doesn't do search as well as Google. People do trust information on Facebook more than search results -- they're getting info from trusted sources: their friends, family, co-workers and brands they already use.
Wow. At first I was thinking that the battle doesn't even exist because Google and FB are different but because of this post of yours... I think FB will be the new target of IMers..
Guys, this sucks but, all the Internet is based on Google. Hundreds of thousand of people make money because of Google. Facebook uses Google to get traffic, members, money. Facebook had a very good raise this year, and maybe it will raise even more in 2011. But in my opinion they'll never beat Google. I don't even want Facebook to be better and neither do you, those who make money out of Google.
Yeah, I still want Google to be the 'top dog' so to speak. But we have to prepare just in case. That's why I'm also planning to engage in FaceBook advertising.
I just read that facebook had more visitors than google in 2010? I think facebook will remain king of social sites, and facebook mail may possibly help them increase peoples interest in them. It will be interesting to see if the partnership between bing and facebook will beat the google giant in years to come... I think google stays on top of search as king, of course though being microsoft and creators of windows, having bing as default search option is really the only reason i think most people use that
The FB-Google battle continues... Personally, I still love Google so I want it to be the number search engine.
Google will be better and better as the time passes by. Facebook is only networking site not search engine site...
Thanks for sharing. It is indeed that Facebook is continuously improving but comparing the site with Google, it's different.
