CO.CC Domains

    Hello

I came across http://www.co.cc about 2 years ago but i have never bothered checking them out until a few days ago, I see that they offer free domain registration for some domains but other domains you may need to pay $3 or $7 from what i have seen to date.

I am wondering if a CO.CC domain would be just as good as a .COM domain for search engine ranking, page rank, alexa rank , are there any down falls or reasons that i should choose a .COM domain opposed to a .CO.CC domain? I need to know if it will rank just as good for keywords on Google as a regular domain would,

What is the difference between a .COM and CO.CC domain?

They perform just fine, Google doesn't care what domain you are using, but any domains are cheap, so I would suggest you to register your own domain.
Some problems I have discovered with co.cc domain:
    1) Facebook doesn't let you link co.cc domains, because they are used by spammers (because they are free), so you have to use some kind of url shortener, but that also looks fishy.
    2) Yandex (most popular search engine in Russia) doesn't let you submit co.cc domains, also probably because of spam.
All in all, what is free, is also attracting spammers and scammers... just invest those few bucks to a proper domain name.

Not all co.cc domains are free, The one i am planning on getting is $7 and its a good name something that wouldn't be available to .com , I don't think that i will see a big difference from Yandex, and I'll figure something out with Facebook

Performance wise, I think it is very hard to determine because if you plan to test, unless you are using one identical niche with equivalent SEO-ed content. I have used both .co.cc (with blogspot) and .com and .info before, but because they are different niches, they all performed pretty much the same.

There are rumors among people (and I think I read in a Google techie's blog that .infos do get discounted in SERP ranking) that cheaper domains like .info or free domains like .co.cc do get discounted. However, we will never knew and it is only best if you try it out personally with a few niches of your own.

I've two websites with CO.CC with Wordpress installed in it and found no problem at all. Three are many websites which uses CO.CC domain name and search engines do index them well. However, its also true that as this is a totally free service, spammers often use them. If you don't have or want to spend money on registering domain names, then CO.CC can be a good option. I personally would like to say that even for a small or very-small business a well maintained and optimized CO.CC domain can do good, but you should also keep in mind that people's perception about TLd's matter. CO.CC best suited for testing purpose or personal usage.
    Thanks,

Good points, I was thinking on choosing a co.cc domain because i noticed that there are domains like "thesimpsons.co.cc" which is not even registered, and i thought if i would register that and turn it into a website which had simpsons episodes then it would rank very well and get a lot of traffic because it's easy to remember... but i don't know if i would run into problems like getting sued for choosing a domain name like thesimpsons.co.cc :S
