Hey there, we all know there are many ways to
    market our products/sites.

Do you guys keep track of your marketing - such as
in a word document - for listings of articles posted, blog
    comments, etc?

Just looking for the best way to be organized
    and keep track of things...help!!

No I don't. But I think its a good idea to keep track of marketing efforts. BTW, I won't say that blog comment is a marketing effort. :)

I don't keep track of all the ads I have posted on my computer. But I do track the source of my traffic using Stat counter.

I track generically - my aweber opt in tracks how many clicks I get and I install Google Analytics code for every page I set-up. IMHO a huge advantage that internet business has over offline is the ability to pin-point where your traffic and sales are coming from.

I track it like this... I track general efforts in a blog... I just write down the changes I make on the way.

    • I submit things from blogs to social networks. I track clicks on those links from social media to blog via twitterfeed. (read this to understand more: click here)
    • I mark my links for affiliate programmes well with a good name, so I know what the link is about. Example for Clickbank products: [name of blog]-[name of product]-[published date]. That's how I know which click is which product in time.
    • I mark my Amazon widgets with good names, as [blog name]-[product name] if it's not post related, so I know which widget is working and which not. I track that in Amazon stats.
    • I track AdSense clicks on their platform.
    • I track general marketing efforts (trends in traffic) via Google Analytics. I am a GA fan and I just don't find my way around other stat programmes.

That's it generally... I am new with this, less than 2 weeks, but I am someone who likes to observe what is going on with sites and traffic. I might make a google spreadsheet later to write down what works and sells and what not, but I don't see why. If I want to see if my clickbank sells, I go there. When I see what dates the traffic is good, I check my blog to see what I did that day and what I posted...

    That's my learning process...

Oh, and... - trust my instinct :)

For IM stuff, Google Analytics + Goal/Conversion tracking is the BOMB!!!

For Offline I have a big Excel spreadsheet to track all my marketing campaigns.

    Columns are:

CAMPAIGN NAME - # OF PIECES SENT - TOTAL COST - CUSTOMERS GAINED - PROFIT/LOSS

Not much tracking on the blog commenting but I do keep track of the pace of what I do (eg 5 articles/day, 1hr forum posting/day etc) Then I look at my GA or Piwik to see where my traffic are coming from then focus on the method that is bringing me the most traffic. Being able to measure your work is key to progressing and getting results! Pareto's 80/20 really is effective when it comes down to business.

Yes I do keep track of the ads and my marketing efforts.
If you don't keep track of whats going on you are bascially
driving blind....I use Google Analytics to keep track of traffic
and I then use Adwatcher or Adtrackz to keep track of my
    ads (clicks,optins,sales)

    Tracking is extremely important.

I do always keep tracking the results after promoted website. Not only seo like keyword, ranking but the pattern of visitors. If peoples do stick with your website they would type your name directly instead of found you via search engine. The usefulness and brand established are keys for long term solution. You cannot just rely on traffics from search engines forever.

I keep track now with writing down what's done, and which SERP place I have on important keywords. I make a couple of notes a week.

SEOmoz have a tool which keeps track of your SERP position and logs it. I haven't had the time to look more deeply into it. I don't know if it's possible to make notes on that site. If it is, than it has it all would I say.

Let me know if you try it, if it has all the features you wanted.
