I'm completely agree with amitgwb. This layout is unable to hold the users on the site. You should add something like: breaking news or featured post sections & many other things to hold the user on the site. If you want more info, visit my website, mentioned in my signatures.
Thank you very much, directory submission is not worth the time, here I was thinking its the only way to go. I am looking forward to some results, currently I am listed in google, i know by searching for "site:all-hairdressers-london.co.uk" and it returns about 1200 results from my site Although i don't know where i am placed, when i search for phrases such as "london hairdressers" or "hairdressers in london" My friend designed it, i did the PHP and such.
I shall move the Next Page button to the bottom, thank you very much I am very aware of SEO, I just can't figure out how to build some traffic, that is kindda where i need some directions from you guys in here who seem to be very well-aware of what to do and such.. I'll consider the image ads, sounds like a decent idea! Anyone have any suggestions as to how to build traffic?
Thanks buddy, not really yet though, but hopefully in the future.. I am just looking for ways to increase traffic, should be easy since 8 million people live in Greater London, right ?
I think the design is fine. Yeah, the name is a little long, but you'll get by. There are people with longer domains than that & they do well. Something tells me that's not what the poster meant.
Great design, very easy to navigate through it. I see a little thing though : at the homepage, where you see the number of hairdressers listed, you can't really read the word "hairdressers" properly. Nothing big, but still. Overall, the site is great. Good job.
@Alvand SEO is long term and worthwhile in building traffic, just find your best highly searchable keywords and linkbuild your ass off. It will pay off after a few weeks. Trust me. Other methods to build traffic, require the limited resource of money! I tried Adwords in the past, got a lot of traffic, but terrible conversion, same for facebook ads. So SEO is your top artillery/gun.
If I'm looking for a hairdresser I do it once via the yellow pages and then keep using the same hairdresser for the next 30 years. Not much repeat custom there. I know you've chosen a niche you don't know much about so this won't help much, but what about a searchable hairstyles (by length, style, face shape etc) section or a fashion blog? That might bring repeat visitors. Also, your big "currently listing 3979 hairdressers" thing at the bottom - the number completely overlays the word "hairdressers".
I imagine that people would use the site if they've had a good or bad experience with a hairdresser and want to spread the knowtion of it. A fashion blog and the hairstyle thing is a really nice idea mate, i am forever grateful for these ideas. Other suggestions are welcomed with a smile
There's another idea right there - rating and reviews section, if you don't have it already. Don't forget to include a "disaster recovery" section in your blog - how to recover from a botched home dye!
You can already do a thumbup or thumbdown opinion for each hairdresser, for instance take a look at http://www.all-hairdressers-london.co.uk/100--U-Hair-Studio-5 it has gotten 2 up's and 2 down and people can comment on any hairdresser at anytime. ideal for story sharing and such. As for the blog/articles, i imagined just redesigning the home page into having an archive of articles listed on the left hand from the map. And perhaps adding an article now and then about what is "in" at the moment. is this a good idea, or should i do an independent page ... /blog
website design is very good, i like design template. i have one suggestion for your website. try to add one more small adsense code in your home page like after currently listing in bottom of page.
I think your site is decent But it is all ads and i am assuming that is how you plan on making all your money, and with the yahoo search results it take forever for yahoo to crawl your website, but your site is kind of built off Google they have all the pages on your site and if you live in London you could just put in your address and search for a hairdresser and do a local search and come up with the same results. Also when i am clicking on the next pages the names are not in alphabetical order.
But the point of the site is to provide a fair imagine of peopls opinions of that hairdresser And to answer your last part the hairdressers are ordered by ranking - those that've received the most "thumbs up" will be listed on top.
