Domain for a Web Hosting Company

What do you feel about a .info/.org/.net/.biz domain extension for a web hosting company? It seems that .com are supposedly the most 'professional-looking' domain, but why is that when the prices for .com and .net/.org are actually the same? I'm starting a hosting company but the name I want is unavailable in .com and only available in .org/.biz . I'm also considering adding a dash in the middle (something-host.com). What do you think?

I still recommend you to go with .com over another extension for company branding and avoid using dash (-) in your domain name. Most peoples do remember a name but not with dash attached into it.

if you are planning to start your own company then don't go for other extensions always go with .com extensions and never use dash or hash in your domain name becuase its a brand name for your company. Recently purchased a domain name for my domain selling company (DomainOffers4U.Com)
do let me know if you need any help

I agree with Sxperm, it is better to go with a .com extension and to not use hyphens in domain names as it is not user friendly and it can confuse visitors. It is better to continue searching for a good domain or you can buy one from domain sellers.

If there is already someone *trading* from your chosen name.com then find another domain - otherwise 50% of your traffic is likely to end up on their site not yours, there will be issues of passing-off/bad-faith registrations etc - just don't go that route - you're already at a disadvantage being a newcomer - dont make it harder that it has to be.

Lets hope you keep thinking that way, so those of us understanding domains and SEO can benefit :)

.com has the most value if you want resell that domain name. If you doing a valued strategy to promote your business and not register your domain only for selling then any domain name is honorable. And most important; don't pay attention to SEO maniacs.

I would choose a name with .com available and also purchase .net and .org. You dont want to have the same name as someone else.

I think that .net domain will be OK for web hosting company.
But as for hyphens, not sure. Many webmasters prefer to reg domains without hyphens.
