Help with phpLD Template Installation

Discussion in 'Directories' started by MainVista, Oct 10, 2006.

We are using phpLD 2 and we have setup all the categories and some links, we want to change the default template. How do we go with doing it? We have downloaded some templates and put it in a folder under templates but now we're stuck there.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

    Thanks

Changes can be made in your ".tpl" files.
I'm using 3.0 and it has a "template switcher" option within the admin section. I don't think 2.0 has that feature. When I used 2.0, I would manually change the .tpl files.

Is that the disadvantage of v2 to v3? No easy installation of the template?

IMO, I don't think so. If you already have a template, in 2.0 I imagine all you'd need to do is copy all of those files into the directory that has the .tpl files in it. (make a backup first).

In 3.0, the directory structure is /templates/custom1
In other words, if you have a template you want to use and all the files are in the "custom1" folder, all you'd do is copy that folder into the /templates directory. Then, in admin in 3.0, point the theme switcher to that theme "folder".

It can be done manually in 2.0. I just don't remember the file structure, but I don't think it's too far different. And the .tpl files are the main files I remember changing. In your case, if you have them already for each theme that you downloaded, you will just replace what's already in there with your template files.

    Hope this helps.

I chose 3.0 for a couple of reasons. The theme switcher makes it easy, but I did all my own custom work on each file anyway, so that didn't really make a selling point for me. One of the selling points of 3.0 for me was the subscription feature. Plus, I thought I'd get more support on it. But I had to pay extra to get into the forum and haven't found that extra payment to be of any benefit yet. In other words, I've received no support on a couple of questions I had on it. I'm still asking the same questions, waiting for answers. I'm happier with 3.0 over 2.0 however. But if you're looking to put the directory up and not do much else with it, 2.0 is a good way to go.

Thing to do, as I do it all the time (yeah, I can do that!).

Make sure the template you are using for phpld ver 2 is for ver 2.
Upload the template folder direct to your present template folder, thus overwriting the files in there.
Then if there is an image folder, upload that direct to your image folder.
Then if there is a css file, index file...upload direct to the root.

That should get you up and running.

Give me a pm with your url and we can go from there if you are stuck.
