I'd say pointing fingers is a good start. Big Sis just started promoting her "See somthin, Say Somethin" program, encouraging Americans to snitch on their neighbors if they see anything they consider suspicious. Raising public awareness by the presentation of facts on this issue is far less insidious, and at the heart of our democratic process.

He may have already done this. I know I have. Polling already shows strong support across partisan lines for dealing with illegal immigration in this country, yet our elected officials seem to be ignoring the issue. I personally consider their refusal to enforce the law to be corrupt at best, and treasonous at worst. If unemployment stays above 9% for much longer, you will see strong support (~65%) turn into overwhelming support(~80%), and any elected official who wants to keep his job will have to start representing the people who fund their checks.

Who says nobody gives a crap? Are you saying it isn't possible to be against illegal immigration as well as cronie capitalism? That is a standard tactic used by the left to divert attention and diminish support for an issue. "How can you be against socialized health care when the oil spill in the gulf has not yet been cleaned up?" Two completely separate issues.

I haven't seen Bogart write one negative thing about legal immigration. Did I miss something?

RE: the first quote, you got me. That is a slap at legal immigration though in fairness, anchor babies are one of the hottest immigration issues right now. If the legal immigration system really does favor family reunification, that sounds like yet another reward for poor people to break the law, dash across the border, and bang out a freshly minted US citizen. That citizenship can then be used as the reunification qualifier to bring mom and the rest of the family across. I didn't see a link to the source, but if the information is legit, I'd say it highlights a problem with the current legal immigration system.

On the topic of anchor babies, I'm not a fan of denying them citizenship, one of the first matters our next congress will be looking at. I personally believe that any mother not here legally who shows up at one of our hospitals and gives birth should be deported the minute she is able to leave the hospital. She can opt to take her newborn American citizen with her back to wherever she came from, or she can put it up for adoption in America. When Mom later applies for her green card, her application should have the hospital bill attached, with interest.

Double-Dip In Housing Almost Here, According To Case-Shiller Index

The S&P/Case-Shiller index declined more than analysts had forecast in October, lending credence to the housing bears who have predicted a double dip.

The local representatives for both the House and Senate already know about the problem. They are pushing open borders in the hope of getting more democratic voters.

The issue isn't the people that are already in the US legally. However, due to the broken down immigration laws, unsecured border and the economic crisis, the US needs a 10 year moratorium on immigration. No other country in the world is accepting 2 to 3 million immigrants per year.

THe system is broke. Legal immigrants have added a lot to America and legal immigration generally has been a good thing. The issue is that the US is accepting millions of legal immigrants through family reunification that have no skills and are unable to survive without government programs.

Wasn't the current America proudly built by 'illegal' aliens from Britain who used English convicts to build their stately homes before raiding Africa to get more slaves to do the work for them?

So my aunt who happens to have no skill that she could not even read and write and was acquired through legal family reunification does not fit in the system ?

If you wish to disparage people by sanctimoniously associating them with actions from centuries prior when their country was established... best done by someone not sitting in a land developed as a penal colony. Ruins the effect.

Nothing to do with our proud heritage, that same people (Britains) who sent British convicts here sent them there first and it was only after hundreds of thousands of their convicts were sent there that the New Americans worked out they didn't want to be known as being founded in criminality that they started the war of Independence and stopped Britain sending any more. From then on convicts came here, as illegals too and built our foundation as well. The 'empire' stole America from the Indians just like they stole Australia from the Aborigines.

My point of last post was the country of America, as we know it today, all started with an illegal immigration and here you are whinging now that it's a problem, when in reality, it's probably helped you create the great place you call home.

The "great place I call home" is a border state where illegal immigration, a breach of the law already, leads to a lot more crime by foreign nationals.

You're welcome to your opinion, but since you don't know anything on the topic firsthand it isn't exactly informed, much less noteworthy.

I agree I don't have first hand experience of life in the USA. I do have it very good here thanks and may only visit someday for a holiday. But I do relate it to our politicians always screaming stop the boats. Same shit, different country, except our pollies are whinging about a thousand people, all meant to distract you from the real problems of how they're spending your money. I do get annoyed with some immigrants who want to impose their way of life on us, yes, but most immigrants will fit into a society and will become valued memers of that society if given a chance to do it. I think anyone who perpetrates violence of any kind should be deported never to return and all travel between allied countries should be borderless.

So in one post, Bushranger has established for us that he doesn't have the first clue as to who populated the first US colonies, when our immigration came into existence(illegality implied), and/or Australia's current immigration laws. It must be easy to talk sh*t when you have no idea what you are talking about.

Personally, I would LOVE to see what Australia would do if illegal immigrants were arriving on it's shores at the pace they are arriving on ours. Of course being an island(Continent) nation, they would have to arrive in boats, which would make their arrival fairly pronounced. I strongly suspect you would be rounding them up and putting them in camps, prior to their deportation.

I strongly suspect our government would do it too. Personally I would let them ALL stay.

I know about your convict history as I researched ours, which stems from yours.
