Hi I am curious...does web directory owners make money? If yes how? And what goes into making a web directory site? I mean do you need to code special algorithm so search engine can visit you? How does backend stuff of web directory work?
Well, first you buy .info domain for .99 then get free web hosting then get free directory script and you will instantly become an owner of dead on arrival directory just like that. Oh money part.... you ain't goin' to make any. fastreplies
Then whats the reason that there are thousands of directories showing up ? There has to be some benefit to the owner...someone is making money from it?
As far as I've ever seen web directories just make money from adsense. The backend part I don't know anything about, so sorry. I'm curious as well though, are their any DPer's with successful directories?
Well, because it virtually cost nothing to start one, some idiots think that they will make money without any effort to maintain it. Like these 'instant approval' directories for example hoping some even bigger idiots will use them and pay $1 or $2 for listing. Some do but not these dead on arrival directories. fastreplies
Speculative Market. They are tons of people who think they can just throw crap on the internet and make money from it. Yeah, the people selling the directory scripts, the people selling the hosting and the people registering the domain names. Some directories do make money a very few .001 percent?
Anybody can buy or create a directory. Very few make money because they do not have the one thing that you need to make money in this business: Paying Clients! If you don't already have paying clients, you will make little to no money.
Even if one has clients, he will have to have 25,000 of them $1.00 a pop to make living. No 1 year old directory has 25,000 sites listed after 1 year online. fastreplies
Two things at work here, a cookie cutter directory site can be launched in under an hour and for some reason dupes in the BST section continue to buy them. Add in the fact that you can get a set of categories and even cull listings from DMOZ and someone could have a DMOZ clone running fairly quickly. But, they would have a site just like thousands of other idiots and a site full of dead and redirected listings just like DMOZ. All the brain damaged see is that for a very little investment they could have a site with thousands of pages to populate with Adsense. Directories, like any website, take time and effort to create something worthwhile that will make money. Most seem to miss the point that a directory with 500-1,000 well-screened sites with good descriptions is much more valuable than a directory with 10,000 listings of spammy descriptions linking to utter garbage. If you are truly interested in starting a directory, be prepared for a lot of work. If you think it's a quick way to make money, don't even start, you'll only be wasting your time. There's no special coding done other than using standard SEO techniques and there are a variety of software options to choose from. A general directory will by it's nature get more submissions and listings but are also harder to promote among the sea of crap directories out there. Niche directories are both easier and harder to promote but when done well can be more successful.
Don't tell them that because they will stop putting dead on arrival directories online and we won't have something to talk about. fastreplies
Yes it needs lots of work.Your website should also have a unique look that should interests your visitors. And why .info domains.Any specific reason?.
I actually came to a point that free directories not even worth the time and effort to research and submit, their ranking and PR are not stable and always changes, put into the equation the fact that you need to screen dozens of free spammy dropped PR directories, this all makes it not worthwhile, so actually i i even gonna submit to a directory it will probably be some reputed directory like yahoo or DP directory or botw, etc.
Wounded, use the info.vilesilencer.com directory list and you might change your mind about that. Dan maintains a very strict set of criteria before accepting any directories into his list. Of course, that presumes that your sites would be accepted by a quality directory. Sadly, the vast majority of free directories are total crap but there are plenty which are not if you know the right places to look for them.
If You want to start you directory you have to pay $30 for getting php admin...Then You have to do 3000 directory submission social bookmarking forum posting and so on that will cost $100 the total will be $130 this is initial cost After that you have to wait couples of months to get PR(page rank)..once you get 1pr rank then you will receive average 100 submission daily. When you will get pr 5 and above then you will get paid listing from peoples that will you income....
After 1 year of operation have around $200/mo income (50% is from adsense). Was PR6 from the start though. Just about to finish new tableless layout, should load faster.
You're talking rubbish. We're getting between 2,000 and 5,000 of submission per day and only between 10 and 20 of them that make it in and only 5 of them on average paid and we're talking about 10 years old directory that had PR6. So, next time you tell your bullshit stories, then do me a favor and tell them to somebody who care to hear what you have to say. fastreplies
