I bet that Kim Jong Il is jumping around one of his palaces right now, angry as hell, screaming "WHAT THE FUCK DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DO IN ORDER TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AROUND HERE?"

Well at least now that N Korea is nuked up it will be one less country for Bush to attempt to fuck up. :)
He's doing a good job in the Middle East with ruining Iraq and Afghanistan that is very clear for all to see.

Seems that in this day and age of the being the worlds policeman the US hates other countrys having Nuclear weapons when the US has more than any other nation in the world and is the only nation in the world to use a neuclear weapon against another nation.

    Talk about double standards.

Or is it? NK's nukes are about as limp as Olbermann on a hot date.

A more interesting point is that the U.S., South Korea, China, Russia, and Japan have been engaged in joint talks with North Korea for a long time over this, and the North Koreans are now threatening to fire a nuclear missile unless the U.S. negotiates with them alone.

They have made this demand before, but I'm not sure what they hope to gain from the U.S. that they must hide from South Korea, China, Russia, and Japan.

Do they think that we have special milk and cookies that we can share with them?

The U.S. just isn't that interested in North Korea. The Japanese are mired in internal cultural politics. The South Koreans are too small to tackle North Korea alone. But... if the Chinese get annoyed enough they can take North Korea out and no one in the international community will say a bad word about it.

But, that's future thinking. Today, all five allies are sticking together and negotiating together and are at least planning to act together.

The "actions" will, of course be weak -- in response to the weak North Korean nuclear test. There will be some nasty letters and maybe some additional sanctions. Sanctions have been shown to be useless in the past, because they have little effect on the few people who hold power in the authoritarian dictatorships which seem to be the only countries to receive sanctions.

The North Koreans are going to have to do something much worse to get the attention of the world powers. And, of course, they seem to be very willing to do that.

So, what do you think? Is it time to start criticizing the Bush administration for refusing to act unilaterally? Shall we complain about John Bolton, because he is working this issue with our international allies and Communist China?

That seems to be the complaint actually. Democrats want us to talk unilaterally to the Norks instead of the 6 party talks and have us deal with them directly. Hello. Anyone see at least 2 problems with this, the least of which being a totally hypocritical stance on foreign policy.

Brit Hume interviewed the brilliant and always articulate Ms. Condoleezza Rice on the topic of North Korea.

Ms. Rice was quite insightful concerning my two areas of interest: China's involvement and multilateral talks.

Crazy! Look at that electrical use. Practically none in NK, save for the 1 bright spot. I don't pretend to know the population distribution of NK, I'm pretty well sure, everyone else is in the dark there.

Guess there is one positive though; bet they have a great view of the stars!

Jeez the first page of this thread stinks of idealism. Thank god some people are basically not listened to by politicians or we'd be dead.

North korea are only a threat to asian countrys and the ever growing china will soon put a stop to this. It's estimated that any military action against korea would result in 1,000,000 casualtys. Thats why the US are staying out of it. Quite frankly its very hard to stop north korea without an asian alliance as the cost will be huge. Im looking at china and Japan especially to be the major players in this fude as japan can be reached by korean missiles

It just always amazes me that liberals want to move towards a system in this country which has failed so miserably overseas.

Yeah. I think that's weird too. I think, though, it has more to do with control than it does for success or failure.
