Yes, this forum is seriously declining - no news there!

Is the forum declining in quality posters and writers?

Yes – it has for years, and it’s well-known throughout the industry as the dregs of the marketplace. Even the mod y’all keep looking for to ‘save the day’ is very, very long gone. (That’s a story that’s not mine to tell, but her absence should speak for itself.)

Does it have to be that way? Nope. But unless you’re invested in rebuilding it over time and pushing for new structure and rules, it’s unlikely we'll see change in the meantime. The best method for change is to simply take your business elsewhere.

Rather than venting frequently and griping about how nobody is paying you for your work properly, stop working here.

    Seriously.

Come for conversation if you’d like, or create products to sell. There is still a market for certain services here, but you have to know how to market them. Crying about it won’t actually do anything, although it does feel good to vent.

This is a vent, after all.

So what do you do? Let me offer you some suggestions:

Try some different forums – those might not be totally saturated yet, but they are getting close.

Try a specialty. Build a brand around something you really know and understand. Being a generic writer will never amount to more than a generic income. Specialize in a topic or a style of writing. Be warned, this may mean starting over in a new market.

Find a real market. A marketplace isn’t a market. Writing is a serious business, and one that can pay well, but you have to organize and build that business accordingly. Determine your specialty and then the corresponding target market. Need a suggestion? Specialize in adult materials and work on an adult forum or target sites directly. Become a specialist in high tech gadgets and query (contact) those sites directly or get active in a corresponding forum where the market hangs out.

Start researching your own business. You spend time looking for information for generic articles, so why not look for information on your own business. Google things that relate to what you want to do, but don’t bother looking for jobs. The best ones aren’t going to be readily available – you have to work for them.

Build your own products. You’ve spend all this time writing for others, why not write for yourself? Write a website or ebook that you can make money from. This will, of course, require a whole new avenue of research and hard work.

Or, if you like, you can hang around here and complain some more. I’ll be here for another few weeks before I finish a new project financed by a little sale on DP, and I’m getting a kick out of reading about the same thing over and over again.

Seems about the same as it has always been to me.

I do notice the "mod y’all keep looking for" hasn't been around plugging her ebook to a "secret market"

Looking at your join date, I see you've been here since 2009, and you're right - it hasn't changed much since then. This is why I'm amused at everyone talking about how much it's changed in the last few months. Years ago, it was a totally different environment, but it's been roughly the same for a couple of years now. You're right, Jenn is gone although she never touted the ebook as a secret method. If she did, the secret must be out by now since she's been running a blog with the same sort of stuff for years now. (In full disclosure, I write for the blog as well).

I haven't spent a lot of time on DP or in the copywriting forum I have lurked in DP for longer then 2009 not a lot longer maybe 2007 or so. I have studied most of the sections on DP. DP is easy to get burned out on once you study a section for too long it is the same old stuff a little bit of info mixed in with people trying to drop links, sell ebooks, etc.

Copywriting usually leads to a purpose and to me Jenns post seemed like they always lead(in a round about way) to the ebook for sale. She did contribute some decent info to the forum but when you read it a few times it is the same info just rewritten.

As for the rest of this copywriting forum it seems all about the same to me, How do I make more money? Maybe it was diffent years ago ? I Cant say.

How can you start a thread within a thread? Obviously, if you want to start a new thread you can do so... just check out the rules regarding the topics allowed.

Unfortunately, I agree. When I first came here this was the place to be. If you wanted to sell your talent you had lots of cool people around that respected your work, your age, and your experience. Now we seem to be in the one-liner smart ass mode. People with lots of blah blah posts throwing one liners on there to increase their post count (or whatever) and almost zero respect or dignity for the person honestly reaching out. What a waste. Waste of my time and effort.

    Sad.

The same. I've been here so long that it would feel strange to completely leave. Plus, I still find a worthwhile opportunity every now and then. As I'm sure you know, it doesn't take long to spot the few prime leads among all the rubbish.

I pick up maybe one job out of two or three on here - although most of my clients are regulars, so new gigs only come around every few months or so. It's nice to jump in here and see what's being said, and it is slightly amusing to browse the content creation section and see posters looking for four blog posts a day for $2.50! And then of course reading the positive responses in very broken English below...

DP has always been the same for me over the last eighteen months - pretty terrible for the most part with the odd decent job if you are prepared to dig for it and stick to your guns when it comes to your fees.

Tyler, what's the forum that you're referring to that is 'especially fond of DP'? Sounds like the perfect place for me :)

Chin up everyone, there's work for all of us out there...
