They use software which copy and paste common content automatically for the same fields like title, email ID, website name etc.

There are many software that submit your links to other web sites / directories like:
submitplus, link directory submitter, fast directory submitter.

Whether its spam or not: it depends on how you use the software.

    Really???
SPAM is SPAM and no software will ever change that.

Would you like to tell us what using software and how has to do with spam, Mr. Citizen of Trollsylvania?

Some might not even use a software.
May be they own all of those directories and segregate them in groups of 100/150/200 per common admin and have a common database per group. Then they must be using a common admin panel for link submission to one of the directories in the group which gets replicated in all the other directories of that group.
So practically, they manually do 8-10 submissions which starts to show up in the thousands of their directories.

Automatic submission is not good for any work in SEO. Manual is better than automated.

I would love to explain, but judging from your response, I don't think you will be able to comprehend it. Anyway let me explain:

e=mc2 (can create cheap electricity but if put to bad USE you end up creating Nagasaki, Hiroshima)

So best of luck for comprehension Mr. citizen of Einsteinville. :)

In general it seems that Google is getting better and better at catching automatic submissions. Would be wise to probably just build links the
'hard' way to insure that your rankings will stick around.

    They are either
    • automatically creating profile pages
    • using crappy directory submission software which is actually hard work, I prefer just having canned text in informenter (1 profile per site) and doing it manually
    • pinging sites which create "about me" type content automatically. I created one of these sites just for fun but the results are less than worthwhile.
