No, google won't think that's a cheat, never, cause google can't think, it's just a bot with algorithm
and google won't penalize you for that

Do you have any other links to other urls in those websites? If you just play with 5 urls in 5 websites, then it could be a problem.

JMO but how can you guys possibly think it's okay in the eyes of Google?

Creating the backlink yourself is a blatent attempt to manipulate the SERPs and is against Google's TOS, just read the guidelines.

    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66356

Why do you guys think people are careful in not building links to fast? But unless Google can 100% without a doubt prove you're trying to manipulate the rankings most forms of link building will work, if not it would be to easy to sabotage your competitors.

Creating normal linkwheels lost much of it's effectiveness several years ago, and people started creating open ended "linkwheels", not connecting them all to complete the wheel. Google's algorithms changed to adapt to the original linkwheel.

If Google can determine it's your site's that's linking to yourself trying to manipulate the SERPs much of the effectiveness will be lost. And if you use Adsense or Google Analytics on ALL of your sites it will be easy to track. Some normal linking is okay but a systematic approach in a blatent attempt to manipulate the SERPS is not okay in the eyes of Google (I'm not saying I don't do it) but you need to take precautions.

Although people don't mention it by intentionally creating backlinks to manipulate the SERPs is blackhat, but some people seem to think it's their right to create them.

They are your sites, so why are you afraid to link between your sites?

I just have about 20 sites, and they are all unique shareware and freeware sites, no duplicate content. So I just want users to know that I have other software and sites for them if they visit one of my sites. But I am very afraid that Google will think the "Other Software You May Need" links is a cheating.

Because I have 20 sites, and every page of every site has a "Link" sidebar with links link to other of my sites. These are a lot of links, I don't know if it is cheating on Google, or I am doing a White Hat SEO?

That sounds a little different and should be okay, but the way you described it sounded like a linkwheel which arguably could get you in trouble in the eyes of Google. As long as the sites are related and it's not a blatent attempt to manipulate the SERPs it sounds perfectly legit. People have related links to other sites as well as their own (especially if it's related and will help the USER) all the time. Adsense and Analytics ahouldn't be a problem. Just my 2 cents

They are related to "Software", because they are all app sites, one of them is a tech blog. But some are PDF software, some are video software. I am not sure if I can call them Related Links...

And I searched for "LinkWheel" meaning, I think I did more than that... Link Wheel is this:

    b links to a and z
    c links to b and z
    d links to c and z
    ......

But mine is cross link like I said on #1 post, I ve thought put links on every single page will make more backlinks for other site perhaps... Did google punish this cross link before?

All links and sites are mine. I didn't buy any link, and no required other people to link to me on my sites.

In a perfect world the best links would be one way links from relevant high PR sites (preferably from a high PR page). In other words links that you don't create.

To many reciprocal links might cause a negative effect, even with just your own sites.

That being said the main thing Google is concerned with is the visitors experience, if you're providing quality content, and as long as you're not blatently abusing the TOS you should be okay.

No this is not a cheating. However it is good to mention like "our sister sites" on your all websites.

Just the fact that they need to be on different IP's would mean that it's against Google's TOS. That's the reason why people will try to get as many links from different IP's linking to them. I'm not saying it won't help, but it still falls under the blackhat catergory.

I'm just disagreeing that it's NOT considered trying to manipulate the searchengines which would be against Google's TOS.

    Read the first bulleted point.

Natural linking is always best... I like to include some randomization as well rather than linear link wheels.

    Hope it helps,
