I would say use illustrator for making logos as most of the clients prefer vector shape as you can resize the image without losing quality
photoshop ..Don t spend your money paying to someone to do it for you..use photoshop do your on style make your idea come to life the way you want it..
I do my logos in PS, but you need to make them in vector format in order to rescale them when needed. Unless you crate a really big canvas and then do the logo there so you can resize it.

Most professional logo designers use illustrator and photoshop. You need to be creative as well as having skills in photoshop.
i think illustrator is too better than photoshop for logo making. Because it works in vector form but photoshop is in raster form. illustrator keeping its clarity in its works, with high resolution.
