Matt Cutts, has confirmed Danny Sullivan's report that Google and Bing use social signals as a ranking factor. In a video on Google Webmaster Schedule, Matt Cutts said: "I filmed a video back in May 2010 where I said that we didn't use that as a signal, and at the time, we did not use that as a signal, but now, we're taping this in December 2010, and we are using that as a signal." Hi, Might I know does it mean something from social media would be calculated as a new factor for SERP? regards,
It will burst your ranking, in a short period of time. And, if your story did not make on the first page of digg(etc), won't make many difference
Interesting that Matt still talks about PR even though G seems to be ignoring it. Also, Matt says that in order to be counted, social media links need to be visible to googlebot and that here too, 'quality' is critical.
Any article or maybe self-testing to back this up? Btw this has been posted before http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2037698
That's not the first time recently that I've noticed Matt implying that there is indeed a link between PageRank and rankings. I have never felt otherwise and have consistently ignored the oft-repeated DP posters' mantra that "PR has nothing to do with rankings." I don't believe that statement.
Ya I have noticed many times that Google is giving space to the real time search results and from where these real time results are coming, simply from the social sites especially from twitter or some other source. But it's now confirmed by the video you have shared with us, surely social media have effects on our ranking in google.
