Give them a reason to click on your link, like asking them a question or asking for their input in regard to your articles that you post

There are many ways to use Twitter. You can try to gain more followers, post things that keywords will have in searches, post often to get highlighted hopefully in Google, etc. Just keep working at it.

Make sure to tweet stuff relevant to your niche on twitter and throw in a few cool/funny/interesting/controversial things as well, like front page stories of digg, stumbleupon etc. Those will usually get people involved and then they respond a lot more to your tweets because they expect to see something interesting again. Don't just post links to your site all the time, people will get used and "blind" to it. Tweet cool and helpful stuff and put your link in from time to time when it makes sense. You'll look a lot more natural to your followers that way than if you were to promote your site in every tweet.

Tweet relevant articles, provide value, take part in discussions, ask questions and give answers, if necessary create a bit of controversy around yourself, and most of all, test what your audience responds to.

James, you seem to be using twitter much more effectively than an overwhelming majority of users on this forum. I'd say they have things to learn from you, rather than the other way around. I doubt many people here will have much advice to offer you.

The only thing I can think of, you have four lists: you might not be doing quite as much as you can with lists. I've found lists can be a major thing. Adding users to lists can get the attention of key users, and can also help you to converse more easily with people. Also, how did you get all your followers? If you got them organically you're probably in good shape. If you got them through more spammy techniques, then your account may suffer from a "quantity but lack of quality" problem...I don't really know whether or not that's the case, but I think that whether or not it is, looking after key users to network with is always a good thing.

I also looked at your website. I think you'd do better to focus more on the website itself and less on your twitter account.

I'd encourage you to get rid of your link exchange page and instead find a way to network with other webmasters in a more organic fashion, i.e. with relevant deeplinks based on editorial integrity, instead of overt link exchanges, which are frowned upon by google.

I have found number of followers does not equate to equal traffic.
So many people follow other people not because they want to read their tweets, but in hopes that those they follow will follow them.
Thus, how many of your 8530 followers actually read your tweets?
Are that interested in what you tweet out?
Check your followers to see how active they are.
When was they last time they were on twitter.
    And so forth.
That is a real eye opener to people who think they have so many followers when actually they just have a number.
