    Hello DP Users,

I am confused with the term License of theme that we use in wordpress blogs. I am moving from blogger to wordpress and I came through so many posts that talk about having a license for a premium theme.

Is it same like license we use in software or some other type of code or key or a file? Recently I purchased a theme from a developer and I couldn't find out the difference between free version and licensed version that are available on warez sites or rapidshare.

Only difference between them is that the free themes are having trouble with installation. May be due to some files are missing in the folder or corrupt.

Is the free theme available at any legitimate source? Many free software on warez sites or rapidshare are pirated cracked version.

the license will probably ask you to keep a link at the footer intact and not to remove it, if you got the theme free.

You will the license terms on the place where you will download the theme. If there are links encrypted then it's best to retain it. If you want you can ask permission of the theme creator to have a sponsor-free copy of it.

The difference is clear. If you download a premium theme from a warez site, you didn't pay for it. It is likely that who ever uploaded it illegally has added viruses, scripts and malware to the upload or uploaded damaged or corrupt files. That's why you are having trouble with installation. It's a bootleg.

If you purchase the theme you will get the proper version. It's pretty plain and simple and don't risk destroying you site with malware or hidden links.
If you download from warez sites, you deserve what ever you get.

Besides of malwares and hidden code in your website from warez theme, you are also using someone copyrighted product, if you are caught, they can report you to your webhost and your webhost shut down your blog..

Plus if you can't afford premium theme, then use the free ones, they are lots of the good ones.

Buying premium theme is nice instead of downloaded software, because you have the license, you can update them if it has update, support forum, etc, plus you're confident to promote your blog everywhere without being afraid to be caught, IMO.

I think I made a right choice by purchasing the theme and not using the downloaded one. I can see the difference. The one which I have purchased was insatalled in the very first attemp and is quite excellent.

Hopefully others will read this and stop believing that warez sites are some kind of brootherhood of charity and see them for the destructive, malware infested sites that they are.
