I would actually recommend Expression Engine over any of the standard blog scripts right now. It costs $99 for a personal license or more for commercial, but it's much easier and flexible to deal with in the long run. My personal view is that when it comes to business it's worth it to invest in software that has tech support, regular updates and a core team behind it that actually get paid for their time.

I've used MANY scripts over the years and I do love Wordpress but it has some really big issues when it comes to growing a site. Tho it's probably the best option is you just plan on running a simple blog you'll run into a lot of frustration if you want to customize a lot of it with different plugins, particularly when a new version rolls around (many plugins quite working and have to be retooled).

I also found it frustrating that I couldn't find a decent photo gallery or newsletter plugin for WP. As I said the more you want to customize the harder it gets.

It kind of boils down to the old saying, you get what you pay for.

    A super newbie here.
I opened a blog on Wordpress. Can I open another blog within the same account (if yes, how to do it?) or I have to open another account?

Yes You can open as many blogs as you can "handle" with the same account. Go to administrator and then options...

i plan on running about 5-6 blogs, would it be best to keep them in subfolders(i.e www.something.com/myblog1), subdomains(myblog1.something.com), or register entirely new name for each blog and keep on same server?

does it matter when a site like google indexes? ive read subdomains not good, but rather keep in subfolder.

Wordpress all the way, it has really easy search enginge friendly URL's and you can set them up yourself, eg add .html and stuff. And of course the ease of the adsense plugin

Each blog should have different domain. Especialy if they aren't related.
