Has anyone witnessed a dramatic change in Google rank over last few weeks? I am asking this because some of my sites have lost rank for several keywords where they on page 2 and 3 of Google SERPs. The site is indexed, number of indexed pages is increasing, it is being crawled almost everyday, the number of back links has gone up but still the rank has taken a severe beating. Any suggestions? :)

Just keep building backlinks. Google just went through their big update about eight or nine months ago (which is a short time if you understand how Search Engines work). You might even rethink your linkbuilding strategies and some of your on-site SEO.

Not specifically for any of my own sites - but one thing I have noticed is that when i search for "mail" (which i normally do to get into my gmail account... as im lazy) gmail is waaaay down the list and it used to be in first position......

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, we are constantly building quality back links and to our knowledge we are probably doing everything right. I am aware of the update about eight months ago. The current slide that I am observing is about 10 days ago. I was wondering if any more updates are underway. If not, we need to seriously worry about it. Thanks again.

WOW! What an observation. I did check that and yes, you are right. This site that I am referring to used to be on page 2 for many keywords but now its not even in first 500. This is kind of strange. IT is still on page #1 for many keywords and its back links are increasing. We are doing all possible that we know of. Lets see. Thanks for the help.

Ranking is changing, Google's algorithms are updated, we need to continue to work to create more external links!

well that's interesting, I have no idea these things were happening, i've seen no real change in rankings though.
I guess Google is just being... well, Google.

I guess you are right. Google is just being Google and I would rather wait for dust to settle down and recheck after a few days or maybe weeks.

Not a dramatic change but don't know why my website is stuck at number 17 :D

You seem to be lucky. Somehow the wildness of fluctuations is baffling. In the morning my site is on page 2, morning its on page 1 and then pack to page 2.
