This is good news for genuine social media enthusiasts. But you are right in saying that people will flock sites like fiverr in hordes to get as many social media signals as possible. Spammers are like viruses and they spoil the fun from some real interesting stuff. I am sure Google will definitely find some way to check this. Hope thats not too late.

Yes, and they are offering services at crazy rates. 1000 Facebook followers for $5. I am not sure what purpose they will serve by getting these fake followers. Maybe they can help fly by night SMO operators to fool their clients and make a quick buck. I believe social media sites are a great way to connect with the target audiences but with the kind of spamming we are seeing these days, I think this medium will also lose its sheen.
In my opinion, those social sites will be primarily used for branding and traffic generation instead of backlinks. There is often not a lot of content and the environment is often not contextually relevant. There are no 500 word articles with your LSI keywords so the backlinks won't be worth that much. Of course, Facebook, Twitter etc. carry quite some authority/PR but f.e. twitter links are all nofollow and I'm sure the same holds true with Facebook, so the value you get from backlinks from these sites is minimal.

Now, if thats true, social media sites can be used for both! A bonus for genuine social media professionals but that will open floodgates for link hungry spammers.
Social media mainly focused on local users because local users are more close friends or friends of friends are mostly fans of a business page. so social media is good to get more traffic and also good way to advertise your product of business. So I love social media to get traffic.
