If you deliberately suggest your website to the wrong category, it'll sit there until some editor looks at it and sends it to what he thinks is the correct category for further evaluation - where it will wait again. If he was wrong, it'll be moved and wait yet again.

You can have one wait or two+ , your choice :).

Further, if you choose two+, you've caused unnecessary editorial work - thus using up resources that could have been better used elsewhere.

I looked at a category the other week that was probably not updated in 13 years, seriously it had anglefire sites, sites with "Under construction come back in 1999" and yellow guy with a shovel, sparkling backgrounds with mouse curers that leave sparkling trails, navigation bars in frames, all mixed in with deadlinks.

Like an old shed full of junk. The only way to update that place is delete it.

^gotta agree. DMOZ doesn't seem to really be updated very often. Must be a skeleton crew running the ship because, let's be honest, there are a ton of high quality sites out there, and if you see a category that hasn't changed in years, it's simply because no one is manning the wheel.

Your both welcome to apply to join the editing community and get a great new hobby to do in you spare time. If you can pass the test for entry, your input will be most welcomed. If you can't make the test then please use the update button found on every link, so you can help editors to catch the ones that got away from the bots. So please don't whinge on here, get on and do something to help the volunteer crew who have built this great flagship enterprise.

WHY...?? What is the purpose.? So corrupt editor can sell links? Or so ....???

NO ONE USES DMOZ for any other reason then to get PR links. When is the last time you heard about someone looking for a ____ site and then going over to DMOZ to do a search ?
    I NEVER have.

How about because they both were commenting about how slow editors worked, so they clearly wanted sites listed. But instead of complaining about how much time hobbyists spend then they can become one of them. Hey I know dozens of people who use DMOZ to search. But are you concerned that people don't want to look at your coin collection? Is that why you collet them? Or do you do it because YOU WANT to do it. Guess what, editors at DMOZ collect sites because THEY WANT to do it and if others find that useful, that's just great, if they don't then it's their loss not using a valuable collection of links put togther by people who have some knowledge.

And how about some of those editors selling, being editors honey trapping?

I sincerely hope not because it's against our policy and we shouldn't be doing that :(.

There have been corrupt individuals who slipped in as editors in the past and I don't doubt there will be more. Mainly, they get caught and, when there's compelling evidence, they get canned.

Lies and deceit otherwise are seemingly OK. Nearly every editor from the ODP here on Digital Point has been banned here for one reason or another, so it pretty much stands to reason, that RULES and GUIDELINES are not in your nature as a whole ;)

Now I'll shoot to prove the misleading part...
Sites submitted to inappropriate or unrelated categories may be rejected or removed.

That's in reply to your not mentioning it above where you just say it'll get moved & moved again...

SERIOUSLY, if the ADD page is THAT wrong, remove the damned thing!

At the bottom of the page it says this: Please let us know what you think, and how we can improve the service. Thanks!

So, there, that's my suggestion to the SERVICE that the ODP provides... stop lying!

And as for getting canned based on the evidence... such evidence is RARELY given to the person getting canned, and according to the guidelines once again, it only takes a handful of meta editors to get someone canned, and there is not much talk about evidence...

You will not find any answer of your questions. All DMOZ Editors, CAT MODs, Admins are able to copy-paste from their guidelines only. They speak like a Robot. What they have been told to say, they can, but they can not tell/answer what they haven't been said/taught to answer. Things are simple like this. :D

Just a minute, you want DMOZ editors to say thinga that are not true? We quote from guidelines because they are the guidelines we work within, we don't just make things up as we go along. You might want us to do that. So tell me what is the point of telling someone on here to do something that is just plain not right? I can tell you it is OK to submit your site 10,000 times per hour, it will obviously get listed a lot quicker, except that it will be black listed as spam, so tell me what do you want us to tell you how the directory works, what its criteria are or just to make up fairy stories that are simply not true?

Simply be honest with the issue that, more than 75% categories are not having any Editor, so there is the Outdate issue for long years. And due to some internal management issue, ODP is not willing to take new Editors for few days or months, because ODP has experienced the nasty Editors already. Be honest to say this. :D

Do tell me ANY category that has not got an editor.

Jim can edit in every category in DMOZ and so can about 300 others including myself, So tell me which one, just one that has no editor.

Having no name at the foot of a page does not mean the category has no editor. As I told you above, as is clearly said so many times on here editors in higher categories are editors in all lower categories and editalls and meta editors are editors for every category in DMOZ.

I want to apply for editor in dmoz. But the problem is I have not done any website design for my own. I only work PHP script development.

So what should I write in the field of websites I am associated with?

Owning a website isn't a requirement for becoming an editor.

Just answer the associated websites question truthfully; don't leave it blank.

    Thanks jimnoble.

Last one more asking, is it mandatory to choose username as the real one or I can choose anything I like?
