    Hey all

Just wondering what your veiws are on this. Do you feel that lately too much importance has been given to keyword being in domain name?

Just seems now that aslong as you have keyword in domain name with a small amount of effort towards SEO you can take the first page if not top spot over a much better site thats put in alot more effort towards SEO.

Seems that new sites are taking over top spots everywhere just because they have keywords in their domain over sites/domains that have been around for 20 years, which are better quality and provide a better service to their visitors.

Do you agree or do you think its a good thing?

    Cheers
    John

That is the strategy. Google consider domain name very much.

I agree, as far as whether or not it is a good thing, good is a relative term, it's good for people trying to rank that have the domains with their keyword in them but it's bad for those well established sites that don't have it. So for me personally, it's a good thing ;)

I completely agree with you John. Keywords do play an important role if you have them in your domain name. I have seen several such sites that are doing very well in search results.

I think Yahoo & Bing reward sites with keywords in the domain name more than Google.

Also, if you're doing any business locally or regionally, or if location is a big part of your business model, use a location based keyword in your domain.

The great thing about using a keyword in your domain is that it's easier to get your keywords used as link text.

But thats kinda my point though do you think its a good thing a new site can come along and take the top spot easy enough over a site thats been around for years and years simpley as they now know that keyword in domain is so important yet when the 20+ year old domain never knew this would ever be such an important factor.

I personally think it just has to much importance to the point its starting to ruine search results already load of news sites with poor design and overall quality are now getting good results simpley as they have keywords in their domain and done a reasonable level of SEO, taking over high quality sites that have been around for a very long time.

Does this mean the only way old domains/sites can compete is to either put in way more effort than these news sites/domains or change domain???

Seems mad to have to consider getting rid of a domain that has such an old age and is knowen so well to have to make up for this latest rule thats being considered to be so important.

I would agree and the really annoying thing is that the sites with keywords in the domain names are often nothing short of useless, a quick search on something like a mp3 to vaw converter will show you what i mean. Most of the sites offering a better service are further down the rankings and not as heavily loaded with adverts.

Keywords in your domain help you to rank well. For example, I went online five years ago with a domain whose keywords for the five years since then have always ranked #1 in the search engines. Granted, the keywords are not highly competitive (880 searches a month, per the Adwords tool). But that's still 880 times a month that those chosen keywords will show up #1. And it's because they are in the domain.

I agree, and they seem to be the same with backlinks, thus I seem to be having more luck with them then Google.

While keywords in the domain helps, it's not the magic it was several years ago. It helps, keyword.com would always rank better than abc.com, but it's become less of a factor.

Unless you have a domain that over 5 years old, you should start off with a domain with your specific keywords. Its getting tougher to get .com's but any other type of domain is fine.

I think yes it does matter when ranking needs to come through SEO. But if you are creating a brand name then it's not required.

    Thank you.
