Yes avpower is correct! Your site should be attractive for its visitors. If your site provide good information for the visiter, they will come to your site again and again.

It all depends on the type of your website. If it is a blog website, a high bounce rate is a bad thing. This would most likely mean that people isn't interested in your website and is leaving straight away from where they came from. If it is a product website, it can either be bad or good, yes, you've heard me say good. Try putting up suggested articles or something, as long as you have something that would make visitors click through other pages would be a wise thing to do if you want to lessen your bounce rate.

A high bounce rate for product or commerce type websites can also mean that they've found what they've been looking for. They might bookmark it, save the URL on a notepad or whatever so that they may be able to go back to that page in the future.

well how to reduce bounce rate... just keep the visitor busy on your website ... design your landing pages in such a way that visitor check more deep links on your website.

It's not even as simple as that. If most of your traffic is direct (RSS subscribers/bookmarks) then the chances are that these are regular visitors who have read all your other posts. A high bounce rate in this instance is no bad thing as they've already read your other content. If your traffic is mostly search engine sourced then you may have a problem.

Give visitors an incentive to explore the site. What about using "If you liked this post about red widget, then you're probably also interested in fuschia widgets too" links at the bottom of each page?

True. The type of traffic source differentiates the bad and the good. Then again, there is no such thing as good and bad but only comparison from the previous data and the current data. It all comes down on how you keep your site regularly updated.

    Hi friends,
Test your site with a group of users. Ask them to enter your site from specific pages. Get feedback based on their experiences. This will give you ways to improve. mean read long time for your website pages you should SMO on your website.

If you want to start getting feedback from users, it might be wise to make it anonymous feedback. Face to face feedback can get skewed by a user's unwillingless to displease. Instead, you could use free surveys like 4q (iPerceptions) and KissInsights provide.

it clearly shows you which sites are good and which ones are bad. but it all depends on the quality and quantity of your own friends

High bounce rate does not always mean people are leaving your site right away. Google analytics counts a bounce as someone who only visits one page. So the people could be reading your content but have no other reason to stay after that. So the best thing you can do is have related content on your site. If someone is reading a fitness article on your site and the rest of your site is about a vacation in Mexico. Then everyone will bounce who comes into your site on the fitness article.

i also have the same problem i notice that my site increase 5 to 10% traffic and so the bounce rate.. Thanks for the clarification here that bounces doesn't really mean bad thing, it could be good and it depends to your site's niche.

There is a site called "clicky" just google it. if you install it on your site you can get a different look at bounce rate. they count a bounce as someone who jumps right off of your site. I had a site with a 60% bounce on google analytics but with clicky i had a 30% bounce. so really only 30% of people were a true bounce and the other 30% were just reading one article then leaving. Dont go crazy with bounce rate there is much more important stats for u to worry about.

you should take care when you selected the keyword for your site it may be relevant to your site. so people will not close your website immediately .
and make your website beautiful so once people desire what is it in this website.

Yeah, your keywords pool could be everything here, see, if the search engines are bringing in traffic from queries which seem to be just somewhat related to site contents, then you would expect by the time they get to your site they could bounce right away on the first page if its not what they expect.
Though, you could argue that bounce rate could be good or bad and either argument could pass, but best to look at it as bad most time, so you get to do something about it. On the other hand, you just might need to fine tune your keywords.

Of course, as well as we need to concentrate website's loading time. If the site is taking too much time to load means, the visitors simply goes to other site.
    thanks,
