My site was finally added to DMOZ. Finally, I know the secret to getting listed. Submit your site to be listed and forget all about it.
I guess my humor was missed in the original post. There is no secret. "Submit your site to be listed and forget all about it. "
And now I will reveal to you another secret. Forget it has been listed in DMOZ because 4 years from now you won't see any difference. fastreplies
Fastreplies may have a good point. There is a good chance that your submission was rejected 4 years ago and was only added because an editor found it through other means. There is also a good chance that you got accepted only because an editor found your site through other means and then only noticed it in the queue. Not all editors use the queue, and some even use it as a black list. Submit & Forget Forget 2 Submit The wait time is often the exact same!
Completely agree. 3-4 years ago, I was obsessed with trying to get listed. It wasn't until I stopped caring, I casually noticed the entry. So, there's no telling when or how it finally made it in there. Now that I'm listed, I feel somewhat accomplished. Not because I'm in there, but because of the other listings in there are pretty affluent. My site has slowly progressed to a point where it is considered a valuable resource in it's niche. Just goes to show that if you have a worthwhile product/service, slow and steady is often the right course to take.
Ahhh... but an equally good chance that I do know exactly what I'm talking about! Are you actually saying that none of those things are possible? If you are, then it's not me that's talking about my back side, it's YOU. Sites gets rejected from the queue, and then get added in because the site was found worthy later (come on, it's been FOUR YEARS, tell me the site's not improved, lol). Now tell me that it's impossible for an editor to completely ignore the queue only to find a site IN the queue someplace outside of it. Now tell me that YOU use the queue, lol.
I won't spend to much effort getting listed, other ways you can promote your site, even though DMOZ carries a lot of weight
I want to submit my site in DMOZ but i am not gating succeed from so long can any one suggest me the best method of submitting our site on dmoz.
even my site was not listed which was submitted 4 years back . i know that is manual directory and have to approve manually even then 4 years is very huge even they have tons of website waiting fro approval
That made me laugh. Never even tried to get listed in DMOZ, all the news about the speed made me realize it wasn't really worth it.
I too never tried to list any site that I designed. I do not think that visitors go to DMOZ and then finds sites they need for information. The biggest drawback of DMOZ lays bellow: One who does not know about the website he need to visit, how come he/she will know that there is dmoz? This is about common sense. The importance of DMOZ lays for the SEO peoples only, as a backlink from DMOZ helps their site's PR. Let DMOZ to put "no-follow" in the backlink, I bet 1000 times that no SEO will also take little interest on DMOZ.
I wonder why people are going mad for DMOZ. Be it today or tomorrow, but AOL is going to shut the ODP down forever for sure. Because DMOZ got such a track, where AOL has nothing to earn from it by any mean. And I have not heard any IT companies doing social service in their track of business.
It's good for you to forget that you have submitted. And also forget that DMOZ exists. These 2 tips are good for DMOZ and your health too.
Well, that would be something to think about for SEO builders but... because "no-follow" has nothing to do with SEO, why SEO people should care if links in DMOZ are "no-follow"? fastreplies
Oh... so the crazy SEO people even do not care about the "no-follow" too? So, let ODP to remove the hyperlink then and to keep just the texts, with no hyperlink. What about that?
