This is an question that I have wrote about lately on my blog about whether or not you can survive without Google.

So my things is can your site continue to get great traffic if you disappear today from the Google Search Engines Today?

Yes totally, there are so many alternatives out there that any website can live without Google, that's what I think anyway

I would say yes. There are many various sources of traffic on the Internet, including:

    • word of mouth
    • directories
    • "real-world" promotional merchandise (pens, t-shirts, etc)

These are just a few of many potential Website traffic sources.

i am sure somebody else would be starting to generate those traffic then.
but there could be some time for adjustment.

My biggest site right now definitely could. But as it stands, Google provides a really free avenue for traffic and visitors.

I'd have to promote it by flyers or signs staked into the ground on street corners without Google, though.

That or rely on social bookmarking sites like Digg and reddit again. :)

Sure it can, but it won't be so effective. Alternatives would be social sites, web 2.0 profiles, articles, backlinks and the list can go on.

No Google = No Traffic and even the big time websites need google to get new visitors and customers.

I think it worth considering from the very beginning, especially because we seem to run our businesses mainly around Google, but that's a bit wrong, is like putting all your eggs in one basket, and if they decide to ban you then what?

nothing converts like search engine traffic. and google has over 90% of the SE share. You can, but if you are not in google you are not maximizing your potential growth

Fortunately, I have multiple websites. If one were completely blocked by Google, I would be okay, but I wouldn't like it. I have a couple of strong communities where they would remain strong for many months if Google blocked us, but it would still sting.

Yes I agree. There are also two search engines left, yahoo and bing. Websites can still survive without google though its lost would really much affect the site's traffic because lots of visitors rely on using google search for looking information online.

Why not? Websites can live with traffic from social media.

Many websites ranking owned by me are suffering due to weak backlinks profile. The weird - they can still have traffics and generate revenue without Google. My answer is yes.

I have multiple web sites, but feel without Google, I would not have the means to make it. Kind of sucks being this dependent, but..........it is what it is.

Depends on how your site is surviving in the 1st place. If you're 100% relying on Google SERP for income and it stops well then... I guess you can't survive. That's why you should be getting traffic from as many sources as possible, especially as traffic sources can come-and-go so easily. A simple Google Dance could drop your ranking overnight...

I think in that case would like to optimize much on other search engines to gain similar kind of traffic as Google :)
