Earlier this evening I posted a thread promoting a time tomorrow when I was intending to launch a product on DP. I had searched all through the rules and could find nothing forbidding this. There was a rule about promoting your older threads but this can't possibly apply to this instance. I posted my thread and shortly afterwards received an infraction notice saying it was a disallowed/inappropriate thread. What really annoys me is that if a mod has taken the time to flush out this horrific sin against the system then they could at least take the extra few seconds and say why this is not allowed, not just some vague standard notice like you get from Yahoo or Google that actually tells you nothing. What I really want to rant about is that if you take the time to have a look around this forum you will find threads containing racial and religious bigotry, personal abuse and, on fairly rare occasions, outright lies, all of which are surely against the forum rules. These threads remain active ..........why? I understand the need for rules but I also understand the need for these rules to be applied with an even hand. I could understand the problem if I had written the following, which is still on an active thread:- "What the fuck are you talking about? You went ape shit when I called the qu'ran a "shit book" that encouraged the abuse of women and children. You didn't believe that then. What's changed? Or are you still just full of shit? " or if I had written the following, from another thread:- "It is so interesting to see how former allies, ie American extremists and Muslim extremists who for years have been instrumental in working together to turn large areas of this planet into hellholes (such as Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Chechnya etc) are now at each others throats.... The truth is that the American empire has skillfully used Islamic lunatics like sticks of dynamite to destabilize countries around the world.... nice that they two now can't stand each other... makes the world a little bit safer for the rest of us", a statement that borders on the libelous if not insane, or if I had started this thread:- "Muslims lead the world in perverse, abusive and child porn searches.", a statement that is impossible to prove. I have, when my post clearly didn't meet another reader's expectations or beliefs have been told "at least they don't lie like you" ....... and this was in a thread about Google!! not to mention the hundreds of "PM sent" type posts. Was my "sin" as bad as those? I personally don't think so, after all, the only sin I actually commited was to promote an upcoming event on a forum that is supposedly in position for that specific purpose. However, I suppose the mod. who deleted my thread will simply fall back on the old cop-out:- "The staff here have the final say on what is appropriate and what is not. " although I would like to think that if they applied that rule they would like to apply this one too:- "It's okay to promote your own things, but wait until you have contributed something useful (posts-wise) to the forum." It's just a pity they are not all singing from the same hymn sheet. Paul Schaverien A Previously Content Member of Digital Point
You gotta watch the religious conversations as there is a team of people ready to fight anyone alone in the politics section. I wouldn't worry about the infraction, it is a slap in the hand(heck, I have 7pages of em) and remember that just because you received an infraction and your post was deleted does not mean that others did not get an infraction.
Not really bothered about the infraction - I've had them before; it's more of a moan about the vagueness of the whole thing and that as far as I could make out I wasn't doing anything wrong. Perhaps the mod. who had a problem with my thread could explain exactly what was wrong with it. Then I'll take my medicine and shut up. By the way Laceygirl - love the new photo
I am very much in agreement with you. Mods keep infracting for small "Pm sent" posts when there are some seious insulting posts in the P&R.
It is easier to spot. On the contrary a long post would take time to read and then evaluate if it qualifies for a infraction or not.. To Err is Human, to forgive is Members!
@PaulSch LOL man, if you want Mods start going after fucking cockroaches who are making 30+ posts saying the same "thank you' in every post and leave alone people who are occasionally made honest mistake then I can assure you that this ain't gonna to happen. If you want to make point in this Digital Pointless Forum then do what I do and start fucking the Rules written for idiots who believe that following Rules will help them to stay around for longer. Take consequences like a man. Get your infractions and following ban, take 3 months rest, come back and do it again and I promise you that you will never feel as if you some poppy in potty training. fastreplies
'pm sent' type posts are pointless, most of the insults in the P&R section are part of a lively debate and contributes to the conversation, and the person insulted can always reply, but 'pm sent', complete waste of space.
The op will probably get another infraction because hes complaining - I had 3 follow up infractions because I asked a question - sometimes its much easier to pm a member and slap them on the wrist rather than to wade in
