How To outwit your competition?

I have noticed that for one of my niches my competition are submitting spun articles to 100 directories for each article they post on their website, creating a mass of links, what can I do to counter this - apart from the obvious writing articles and spinning them.

get articles written and spin them.

Or if you take the advice of some of the 'hopeless hopefuls' on this forum, don't bother spinning. After all, duplicate content is fine. That's why the entire world wide web is 4 trillion identical pages.

I am constantly placing high in the SERPs and I have yet to create my first article. My route of choice is creating high PR blogs (specifically on EDU domains)...and using their authority on my web properties....I can't complain as I have several sites that sit in the top 10 out of 55+ million results.

So my advice is look for authoritative backlinks as quality links are worth several thousand lousy links.

Contentboss, yes I guess this was my option, hence the purchase of article demon, where I am spinning each and every article I have written and I understand about building links too FAST, so steady away! Thank you for your input.

if you can't spin articles then try to compete them to some other keywords where they don't rank

Must be a competitive niche as spinning articles means writing them in a spinning format first, no? It's that much more work in the first place. So the niche must be worth it.
I'd say if you're ready to put in the work, that's a nice strategy.

What makes you think they are creating massive links. I can out do my competition ten times over when it comes to submitting articles via mass submission. However, what matters is that I submit to quality sites. Mass submission is usually junk sites that don't help you at all.

I have to agree with this. you do not need to create thousands of articles to rank high. Just work a little to get some .edu backlinks and you will be ok.

dont worry about your competition. Dont get into these blackhat tacticts. Just because it works for them doesnt mean thats what you have to do as well. Focus on quality not quanitity.

If you can't out do them in quantity, do it with quality. Make sure that your site is the best match for the topic at hand, provide great, useful content, improve your on page seo if necessary and look and build high quality backlinks from sites that are in the same niche / topic. Quality will outrank quantity every time, SY

Completely agree. My best articles on article directories like EzineArticles have gotten linked to without any special promotion on my part, and then have quickly climbed to PageRank 2. When I tweet them or post them to facebook, people retweet or re-share them. The click-through rate is better. And the quality of traffic arriving from them will be better too. Quality brings huge dividends. And when you start writing really high-quality work, you can go beyond sites like EzineArticles and write guest posts on prominent blogs and other websites with editorial integrity--sites your work would never get accepted on if it was not up to par.

There's a name for people who churn out large volumes of low-quality articles. They're called spammers. They will fall by the wayside in the long-run. Focus on quality and don't fret if people outcompete you in the short-term.

And also, if someone is egregiously spamming through link schemes, paid links, or other shady methods, don't hesitate to report the scheme to google. I've seen "competing" sites taken out of rankings in as short as 24 hours. And if it's citation spam on a wiki, you can go on the wiki yourself and clean it out, and the community will thank you for it.
