Facebook is a billion dollar company, if facebook used google that would be an insult, as they would make pennies on the dollar compared to running their own ad network...FB ads are not cheap either...FB did not make their billions by running google ads, but their own ads. and you are correct, websites that are making 1000's per month from ads did not start yesterday, they started like 5-10 years ago, and I would suspect that most of them are at least 10+ years old...it took them that long to get their site up in the ranks. people today are wondering where their riches are because they setup a website last month, they have no clue that most sites that actually make hard income has been up for several years at least....This is why you see so many duplicate sites trying to copy the originals...too late...
Before, i will got earning about 400 for one mount then i got banned from Adsense. Msg from Adsense say activation not valid.
Just a counter example, I created shetoldme.com on april 2009 it's only a year and a half old.. The most important things for earnings is traffic, then only comes ad placement, niche keywords, etc.
Traffic is the key man. I know for a fact there are a lot of sites out there making $5000+ a month with Adsense but they get AT LEAST 2,000,000 page views a month.
Obviously "1000s per month" since it is a counter-example of what dscurlock said. Being more precise is impossible due to adsense's tos.
Really i am not getting that much amount but if you have more unique content,more traffic its possible to make that much amount
You ask me, their is only one factor and that is if you have a website and target a particular keyword, then your aim is to be on the first spot in google, if still you cannot make it then 'you are in the wrong niche'

if you have maximised the traffic for one set of key words and are making $400 a month then the obvious leap would be to start a new website with new set of keywords and duplicate this theory. I prefer the idea of multiple website with multiple streams of income
The TS ask if earning 5000 dollars per months is possible. I guess it's pretty possible if you just be diligent enough to improve your site and drive massive traffic.
