The problem with SEO is that it's not an exact science as there is still a lot of mystery surrounding it thanks to Google's reluctance to share information. The more people learn the easier it gets.

Agreed it does have a bad name mainly due to there being so many doing it that dont have a clue what they are doing, offering things they just carnt give to their clients. So many people on this forum and many other forums promoting themseves as SEO experts with websites and everything yet they ask silly questions on here about whats a header tag, how many keywords should I target per page, how can I improve page rank ect ect, yet these people are actually offering SEO services to companies.

SEO generally has a real bad name and its unfortunate as not all people work like this and there is some very talented people in this trade who can really offer a great service.

There is quite a high work load involved in seo so yeah it can be hard work but they if you dont have time to do all the jobs you want to cover its easy to outsource some of the easier jobs that are time consuming. that way you can concentrate on managing the SEO project and doing the more skilled side of SEO jobs that need to be done.

SEO is extremely labor intensive for sure.......I think the key is education and patience. So many people put hours of work in on SEO without really knowing what they are doing. To that end, when they don't see immediate results they give up on it all together.

SEO needs patience, One of the main reason why people hate SEO is that, most of developer and designers like me doing this job, either for their own site or for client. Development and designing response is quick more work better results, but in SEO never know what search engine like.

Even the term SEO is becoming a bit vague. On-page seo is different from off-page and many people disagree about what constitutes either.

The on-page seo is actually fairly simple once you get the keyword search. The off-page seo has many factors including backlinks and social media that are as much art as science. Most people like a cut-and-dried blueprint so they are uncomfortable with the intuitive aspect.

Yes, SEO does take time to implement but one has to be strategic about it so that you cut short the amount of time you spend doing SEO.

There are so many strategies that can achieve this objective of cutting short the time you spend on SEO and a few examples are stated in this post

I would agree its time intensive from the limited scope that I have learned. Personally id rather work on my business than in it. so for tasks such as SEO on or off page just outsource it. Like paying for advertising, you might pay more upfront but then you know your message is being seen correctly (assuming you have actually done your research on your SEO expert and verified their claims before giving them money).

Then you can just watch the money flow in and figure out what direction or other business you want to start up. If you are going to learn it then I completely agree with the above. learn it and dont stop, just learn everything you can BEFORE you start offering services. You dont want to burn your name because you want to offer SEO for the money but then after 2-3 jobs everyone knows you don't know anything about it and y never get hired again.

I would have to say that SEO is time consuming if done right. There are a lot of companies out there that offer these directory submission services and such which in my opinion are a waste of time. There are only about 10-15 online directories that actually matter, all the others are just a waste of time. Okay well maybe not a total waste as you might find some diamonds in the ruff, but you have to put in the time and do the research to find them. Of course they provide backlinks but if you're on page 30 of some directory who's going to find you? I mean would you search through all 30 pages to find that one company that might the perfect fit or would you rather spend maybe an hour at most and search within the first 5 pages. Just some food for thought.

Also you have to remember that the big G aka Google only ranks pages not sites, and the PR of the domain determines the amount of juice (link juice) each page gets along with their link schema. For example if a site has a PR of 1 or 2 maybe only 10-20 links on that site will get the proper link juice before it's all gone, as Google spreads the link love (juice) equally among the links that are on the page. Here is a little demo: lets say that you have a page that has a PR of 1 for simplicities sake; now on this page you have 4 links total, these links are links to other pages within the same domain, once again for simplicities sake. So basically this PR1 page distributes that 1 equally among those 4 links, which is expressed as 1/4=.25 so the link juice that you would get would be .25 distributed to each page. Now each page that was linking to that domain has .25 PR remember we only had 4 links on that page, so it would take another .75 PR juice for each page to become it's own PR1 page. This is by no means an exact sample as Google's algorithms but it's close as to how Larry Page developed the PR system for Google.

SEO is an Thanks less job because you cannot predict anything in this field. Google is the God of search engines. Nobody knows the Google algoritham. Somebody is doing less work and getting very good results and somebody is very good work no results is showing. People do the spamming to get easy ranking of the keywords in SERP and more interesting thing is that they also get some good ranking.
