I think I have a website page problem with hosting: HELP!

    Hi,

I am starting my very first website(building it myself) using joomla. I am still learning this, but my question here is ..I have created links for the users of the website to use which should lead to other pages....when you click on them it takes you to the host gator 404 error page. I need to fix this so that I can develop the pages I have set up for.

How do I fix this? In the host gator cpanel area? or the backend of joomla and how do I do it?

    Please help!

Can you put here the link of your website?

If I see the links where the users are redirected, I thinks I can discover your problem. :)

The problem is your url configuration in your joomla admin panel!
It can be solved there ;)

Where would I find that configuration at inside the admin panel? Do I have to name each page myself or will the system automatically choose a name?

There is a joomla forum to help you. To understand how to use the cms you should hang there for a while.

socialcontentmanagement.com/writerapplication gives you a 404 error because you have created/posted the link but you didn't actually created the page.

yes. thats the problem. you need to create the pages to the menu work properly.
you can use wordpress, it's more easy than joomla and you can create that pages too!

You need to assign a page to the link.
I think it can also help: forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=153&t=164396&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

qtriangle: I think I can understand that but the problem is how do I do that? Normally I would understand but I am unsure if I do this in joomla backend or inside the cpanel somewhere.

Once you are troubleshooting issues with Joomla installation, concentrate only on Joomla. Forget about cpanel and rest.
So, you need to follow joomla guidelines. Joomla has very good help material on Internet.. Google your problem and you will have an answer instantly.
This (popularity on web) is one of the main strengths of Joomla.

the problem may be also because of mod rewrite in .htaccess file.

A simple search for "JOOMLA HTACCES" will yeild a plenty of results for your need

I have been chatting with a hosting support through host gator and they fixed their end of the server deal, but now he is telling me that the right htaccess was added but still giving 404 error...I have looked into many ares for support but there is no one through joomla specifically to help
