When I saw the backlinking of my competitor I observed that some competitor got higher palce with low number of bad backlinks(with pr0,prN/A) but some competitor got lower position with high quality backlink (withPR4, Pr3,Pr2).Are number of backlinks effect SERP? or which is the fact about backlinks?Any help or suggestion

If My competitors have 300 inlinks and I can create 500 can ensure that I will get higher position or which I really need with backlinks?
    Any help or suggestion

    Ps: sorry for poor English.

dont forget age of website is a factor as well. if you keep building related links, then over time you should be able to see positive effects for sure.

In general, it's not the quantity of your backlinks, it's the quality.

What you want is very do follow backlinks on very high quality, very relevant, high traffic, sites with high authority.

there are a lot more factors that are involved in rankings... for instance if the keyword is in the domain name... then theres domain age... then theres some directory inclusion (like yahoo, dmoz) and the list can go on... backlinks are only a part of the ecuation

Page's PR does not determine if the link back is high quality. High quality link must come from context, low OBL and the page that holds quality content. A few links like that can surely outrank websites that have thousands poorer links.

Agreed... Quality of links is more considerable when doing link building. Hence, relevancy is also a vital factor which Google emphasize while assigning ranking in SERPs.

could be a number of things, domain age, quality of backlink, bounce rate, etc
I'd say go for quality links, but then again, a link is a link; if you do enough volume (that is a natural growth), you'd rise up the serps

Quick question: How do I know the link is a DO FOLLOW? For example lets say I write an article, post it to an article website...now how do you know thats its a quality link?

Second question whats this PR4, Pr3,Pr2 ranking? is it a quality indicator for backlinks?

    Thanks

    Ans. of your 1st question:
Do-follow is hyperlink inclusion that tells search engines to pass on any credibility or influence to an outbound link.

    Ans. of your 2nd question:
This is the algorithm what Google uses to determine the importance of a web page.

In ranking a website there are a lot of things to consider and one of them is the age of the website and the submissions done for that website... :)

You can have 1000 backlinks and your competitor can still beat you with 100 backlinks.
The key of the best backlinks is 'quality'.. A link in a directory with 100.000 of other links will
not gives you the result like a nice article on a blog about your website.

SEO is not all about backlinks.. it also includes domain age, designing, content, keyword selection etc.. so dont only prefer single thing..take it as a whole..

It all depends upon the quality of backlinks than the quantity. Links from relevant sites is the key!. You can easily overcome your competitor if you could get links from relevant sites to your niche. There are many sites available these days which say that get 10,000 or 20,000 links in a week. All they do is just run a bot software which comes for few bucks. And the links are complete waste links. So rather than going after quantity do create quality backlinks.
