I think the Google's page rank is outdated Google in its beginning based its search results on the incoming links to site but now days there are link markets where links can be bought or sold using this some websites which do not have any content has got apage rank of more than 7 The best example is www.alivedirectory.com which has a page rank of 7 but has only 200-300 listings in directory as it is a paid directory This shows that Google algorithims are very old and it needs to be replaced as Google mostly rank its results based on the page rank which is one of the factors for deciding a ranking in google I think Google needs to look at the content of the site rather inbound links to a site In my words now days Google is not the Best search Engine as it takes a lot of time for Google bot to revisit the pages
Nobody know Google's PR algorithm... I think its not just based on incoming links. It must be bit more complicated than that Regarding that example, its PR is not valid... anybody can generate PR artificially
IMHO, PR is not really a matter for a website, traffic does. and just like thilak said, nobody knows how google bot works, based on incoming links ? don't really think so, cause the quality of the website that link to is also important ... based on content ? well i guess so, if you only create scrap content, you wont' get high PR, but some website could fool this by creating spin content, once i create spin website, and no promotion, i got PR5 for that website ... weird huh ? but the traffic ... big zero ...
1. "Google bot" works like any other web spider, following links and cashing pages. 2. PR is not based on content PR is based on incoming and outgoing links of ur page. 3. Traffic and SERP is not directly connected with PR. SERP is based on off and on page optimisation ( quality links with good anchor text). PR is based on links so there is only connection. PR is important only as a number that reflect quality of ur link if u link someone from that page and as a help in getting good exchange for example. Outdated ? Read 3. You never going to get that much links with buying then with good content 1000 of examples , www.wikipedia.org Content is not in connection with PR so u can have pr 8 ( for example ) if u have good links. "as Google mostly rank its results based on the page rank" read under 3. "lot of time for Google bot to revisit the pages" how often do u update ur website ?" If u update on daily bases u will get daily Google visits. For example this forum is been crawled by 2-3 Google bots 24/7
PR is not very important. I have a sites with high PR, but I haven't traffic on this blogs. In the other hand, on some sites PR is zero, and I have a ton of visitors them.
Recently i got 4 to 5 visits of google bot daily but there is no result, google not caching the new pages as expected before.
Perhaps not only the links that Google use to calculate for the PR. There are somethings else we do not know. It's very complex.
Not just the number of links but also the quality, niche and strength of the link UPDATE: Darn, fooled by a newbie in bumping up an old thread.
I don't beleive much on google's PR because it is hackable and it much better to just keep on building backlinks, write great contents and promote your website.
