Do you know anything about Genesis and Thesis type of wordpress themes?

I know pretty much wordpress, but I recently stumbled upon a thing called DIY thesis theme. I could not understand what service they are selling as they have no theme to sell.

When I googled a bit, I found another thing called Studiopress Genesis theme which is again something called a theme framework which must be purchases.

Can anyone explain what they are and what are their benefits? how are they different from other wordpress themes?

Thesis and Genesis are premium "SEO optimised" wordpress themes. I work with Genesis in my client's site, and i own Thesis theme.

SEO optimised themes are different than other wordpress themes, because it has "nofollow" attribute where it should be, like "tags", "admin links", those should be nofollow. Thesis and Genesis have these features.

With free themes, you can also optimise theme with plugins or robots.txt, but with those premium themes, you would not have to worry about those stuff.

I vote for Thesis anyway. It has many more options than Genesis (I am familiar with them both).

 

Thanks for a very healthy response, and I want to know that if I already know how to add some basic plugins to do some changes like no-follow and no-index some specific things etc, then thesis is no special thing for me?

Morever what is a theme framework? I mean do I have to buy or build a theme myself after buying their theme framework license ?

About the plugins, i have no idea, since i have never looked for them. Note using plugins can only slow down your site, i personally avoid using plugins if i can avoid it.

Thesis is a special theme this is why it is premium, otherwise it would be a free theme, Matt Cutts from Google has Thesis for his blog!

Framework theme is like "base", "parent" theme. (more infos: http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Frameworks) If you have the framework license, you can immediately apply it to your blog, so it is original ones.

You can then buy child themes, but if you know some php and css languages you can modify the theme yourself easily without buying.

 

Theme Frameworks usually have a very basic look. Mostly whitish and minimal. But many people tend to love the default look of Thesis Theme.

Once you buy a Theme Framework its not mandatory to buy a child theme, you can use it as it is, if you like how it looks. The good thing with buying Thesis is that it is very good at SEO, and has great functionality. Genesis is good too.

 

Both of these wordpress themes are frameworks. They offer more flexibility to customize the look of your site and are particularly useful for bloggers with no coding experience.

 

The no coding experience part is true with Thesis, not so true with Genesis. And that is if you are happy with what you get in the package..

 

I have a lot more experience with Thesis then I do with Genesis, so I was referring mainly to this theme. However, I was playing around with a Genesis theme today actually, and everything seems customizable in the wp admin, so what coding experience is needed?

 

Genesis theme options seem to be in the nascent stage. If you are referring to the customisations that you can do via the open hooks and other plugins, I cannot agree more.

Totally! But hooks can be confusing for a newbie. But once you get the hang of it, you start loving it

 

Mate, if you are not prepared to learn how to use hooks, what chance do you have of making money online? Like anything, some persistence goes a long way.
