    Hi guys,

I really need your help and would appreciate it hugely if you can.

I bought a Maxwell DVD - R 50 spindle case pack. I wanted to put a lot of music on it because each disc holds a massive 4.7 gb of space.

My computer is DVD R/RW and DVD + ReWritable.

I put the disc in and try adding music to it and I got this error "There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a writable cd in to the drive:\."

I also bought a DVD + R 50 spindle case pack and it still came up with that error.

I'm really confused, I thought you could write stuff to these dvds as I have a DVD + ReWritable drive or maybe I don't?

Please any help will be appreciated

    Is it a new drive?

What's the MFG of the drive & Mdl #?

every time I've gotten that error or similar it was when my drive was on it's way out.

also what SW are you using. I never had much luck with the XP drag&drop stuff.

how old is the drive? I mean is it a new computer and stuff?

    ___________________

    1) right click on "my computer" located on your desktop
    2) select "properties"
    3) select the "hardware" tab
    4) hit "device manager"
    5) select "dvd/cd rom drives"

it should show you what'chu got under da hood.

in my case it says: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L632D

    * I'm asking about the age of the drive b/c like I said from my experience those errors are usually indicative of a bad drive...I read that the read & write laser's are different so while you might be able to read a cd, you might not be able to write.

    * Make & MFG is important b/c maybe you need a firmware upgrade OR maybe you can find someone with a similar plight on a Tech Forum...I found several articles yesterday based upon the error you gave.

    Hope that helps!!

    TIM

you bet...I am more than green on the webmaster stuff so it's nice to contribute when I can on the other things -
I try to be a little more than comic relief if possible ;)

there is another site somewhere...have to look for it.

it'll tell you the compatible media per X player.

I doubt that's your problem but for instance - a lot of the cheaper drives can't use the bargain basement media.
I don't think I've ever been able to use Khypermedia discs for example.

Maxell is a pretty good name though - so I doubt that's your problem. [IMG]
